Business2Blogger

Business 2 Blogger
Nice!  Now, if you're like me, you've been seeing the Business2Blogger buttons on many of the "bigger" blogger review sites.  And maybe you're like me, figuring, "My blog is too small to even be noticed, I'll just fade into the background."  Nope, it's even for us newbies!  Now, I've just signed up today so I don't have much experience in the whole thing, but I love the way their site is fun, easy to understand and makes me happy to read.  I've seen plenty of professionalism and I appreciate how they keep it professional but down to earth at the same time, no "I'm bigger and better than you" type attitude on this site!  What are you waiting for?  Click on that little button and check it out yourself!

Beautiful blankie!

I try my hardest to support WAHMs, partly because I'm one of the crowd, partly because my attention span is too short for most crafty type things, but mainly because I can appreciate the hard work they put into their creations.  I recently placed an order through etsy for this gorgeous lovey for Tiny Man.  BlueBabyCreations is a fairly new seller, but I figure everyone needs that first sale, I'm willing to take a chance on someone, especially because I liked the look of her ribbon tag blanket more than even the more expensive ones.  I knew I wanted a minky one so I knew I was going to have to pay a bit more just because the fabric itself is pricey, but he LOVES his super soft blanket and I figure this way he can carry some super soft lovey goodness around with him as he gets bigger and the weather gets too warm for a blanket.

She doesn't have any more up right now, but I'm telling you, this thing is adorable, the ribbon loops are sewn in well, I'm not going to be worrying about him unintentionally tugging one off.  The other side has his name on it, in blue minky fabric, but I'm not going to show that side at the moment.  She was very fast, I ordered on February 21 and got it today!  Amazing!

Thank you so much BlueBabyCreations!!

Inspired by Finn Review and Giveaway

I was in the market for a Baltic amber teething necklace for Tiny Man and was referred over to Inspired by Finn by several friends.  When I was placing my order, I was graciously given the opportunity to offer one up for a giveaway!  In addition, all of my lovely readers are given the opportunity to save 20% with discount code "BLOG".  Very exciting!  Now, some of you may be asking, "What is Baltic amber?  What does it do?  Why do you have a necklace on that boy?"  So here's a bit of info, as provided on the Inspired by Finn website.

What is it?

"Historically, Baltic Amber has been used in Europe as a natural and traditional remedy and curative for many ailments for centuries. Long ago it was considered one of the leading ‘medicines’ of its time. Baltic Amber is the most esteemed amber in the world, and the healing qualities of Baltic Amber make it unlike any other type of amber found in the world.

When baltic amber is worn on the skin, the skin’s warmth releases trace amounts of healing oils from the amber. These oils contain succinic acid and are absorbed into the skin.

Baltic Amber has some of the highest concentrations of Succinic Acid found in nature, and this is what makes it so special. Succinic Acid is a natural component of plant and animal tissues, and it's presence in the human body is beneficial in many ways."

How can it help?
"Pain Relief -
Baltic amber contains analgesic properties and helps take the edge off of many types of discomfort associated with dental issues, headaches, joint pain, etc.

Strengthens the body's immune system -
In many different and subtle ways, succinic acid helps boost the body's own natural healing ability and immune system.

Restoring Energy –
The human body naturally produces succinic acid. The salt of succinic acid (succinate) is one of the most active substances in the processes of cellular respiration and intercellular energy creation. Succinic acid restores oxygen and energy supply to depleted cells and helps the body return to a normal, functioning state.
Succinate is a raw material and a catalyst in the Krebs Cycle which is one of our main sources of energy. During the Krebs Cycle carbohydrates, fats, and proteins are metabolized for energy.

Maintaining Wellness -
When the human body reacts to stress, the body’s cells begin to use oxygen more quickly. Oxygen plays a central role in the intercellular creation of energy, and a lack of oxygen can result in feeling lethargic.
Oxygen is alkaline-forming in the blood and maintaining a slightly alkaline blood ph helps keep us healthy. Whenever the body functions in a state of low oxygen, it is much more susceptible to illness."

On teething.

Baltic amber is said to help with relief of teething pain.  Babies DO NOT chew on the necklace/bracelet/anklet, they merely wear it and let the oils absorb into their skin.  To be honest, these necklaces are NOT recommended for children under 3 years of age because the small pieces and choking hazard.  I understand this completely and made the choice to put it on my son.  The necklace I purchased is knotted between each individual "bead" to prevent the whole thing from scattering if it breaks, so I am comfortable with him wearing it.  They're also offered with magnetic clasps, which I must have missed when I was picking out his necklace because I would have chosen that one instead.  For now the clasp is fine, when he gets bigger and starts moving around I'll probably be purchasing another as a precaution.  In addition, the necklace should be removed when your child goes to sleep.

Personal Experience

I chose the earth tones chip style necklace because I liked the way it looked, more "boyish" to me than the others.  Truth is, the lighter the amber the more powerful it is, so I probably should have gotten a lighter one..maybe when I get the magnetic one I'll make it a lighter color.

I was super excited to see the package sitting in the mailbox and put it on Tiny Man right away!  He gave me this look like, "what are you doin' to me, Mom?" when I first put it on, but he didn't seem to mind.  Tiny Man has had some serious congestion since he was born that never really goes away.  Since putting the necklace on him he's been able to nurse longer without having to pop off to breathe.  He sounds more like Talker Man did when he was nursing and seems to enjoy it a lot more (if that's possible!  The boy loves his milkies!).  We aren't up to the teething stage, and he doesn't particularly drool yet, he blows some serious raspberries and can soak his shirt pretty quickly, but it's all intentional!  I wanted to try the necklace to see if it helped with his congestion and to hopefully save him some pain with the teeth start coming in.  It's absolutely adorable on him and hubby wants to get one himself!  I'm considering and while we're at it we'll probably make it a family affair, including Talker Man as well.  How fun would that be?  To have matching family necklaces that are beautiful and beneficial?

Win it!

As I said above, Inspired by Finn has graciously offered one of you amazing readers your choice of a piece of jewelry 16 inches or smaller!  Don't forget, if you can't wait or aren't the chosen winner, you have the 20% off discount code "BLOG" to use for whatever you choose!  Winner to be chosen by random number generator on March 10, 2010.  To enter, you MUST have a visible email address, either in your profile or in your comment.

Online shopper?

Since we've recently moved from the second largest city in the state to a MUCH smaller town about an hour away from much of anything but a Walmart, I've discovered online shopping! And I looooove to save money almost as much as I love it when the UPS man shows up at the door! I stumbled onto Ebates.com and I earn a percentage back of whatever I spend at participating websites! The only one that I've tried to use that wasn't on there was Amazon, so that's pretty darn good! (FWIW, I used a couple of Amazon giftcards that I got from Swagbucks to pay for a good chunk of my order, so I was still saving!)  Anyway! In using Ebates.com you get $5.00 on your account just for signing up! They will pay you with either a check or deposit it right into your Paypal! I wanted to share because I think it's amazing to save money just by shopping for whatever you were planning on buying anyway!

Not a morning person!

Let me start off by saying that I am sooooo not a morning person! I'm a complete night owl. I work until midnight (and later, usually) almost every night and that doesn't bother me. Well. It didn't USE to bother me. Now I have an early bird kidlet who has an internal 8:00 a.m. alarm clock! (He also has a 5 a.m. alarm clock but since the sun is still down he doesn't get up.) Today I halfway woke up and heard him over there making noise, cooing and such, I knew I was going to have very limited sleep left for the night and laid there quietly. As soon as he started to actually fuss I sat up and looked over at him (he sleeps in his swing right next to the bed) and he got the biggest most adorable smile on his face. I swear, his smile makes everything worth it! It was almost like he was saying, "Oh yes, Mommy, now we're up and moving! I gotcha to wake up!" Sooo darn cute!! By about 11:00 tonight I'll be completely exhausted and ready to crash into bed..but I can't, I have to work! *sigh*

Side note, Friday Followers that I haven't added, I'm working my way through, I like to go visit everyone and follow them and have had a busy couple of days! I'll get there, though!

What are we?

Cars, Trucks and Teething Rings is generally family friendly, focusing on all aspects of life.  I work from home so the challenges there are included from time to time!  Our family is trying to "green up" our lifestyle and we're trying to pay closer attention to our impact on the world and create a better home environment for our children to be in.  This blog is not primarily a "giveaway and review" blog, there are other aspects to it as well, personal posts, personal goals and accomplishments, etc.  We're sharing our bit of life with whoever is willing to read it!

Product reviews and/or giveaways:

This blog is open to almost any type of product review or giveaway appropriate to our family.  Product reviews are done free of monetary charge as long as a full sized product is sent for review (not to be returned).  I ask that full size products be sent so that we can properly try/test and review the exact item that readers may be interested in purchasing from your company.  If you have a specific time frame you would like your review posted, please feel let me know.  I am typically able to post reviews with a week or 2 of product receipt, but sometimes time gets away from me and it takes a bit longer.  If you inform me ahead of time of the time frame preferred, I will be able to meet your deadline.

New site!

I found a cool new website, babyhalfoff.com.  They feature mainly products geared for kids 10 and under at half the retail price.  Today they're featuring the Woombie for $12.49, which I think looks pretty cool, I'd love to try it for Tiny Man, but I don't know how much he would enjoy it.  He liked to be swaddled when he was smaller, not so much these days!  I won't be purchasing today, I don't want to get it and have him hate it, but I DID want to pass the link on to anyone who might be interested!  They feature new things each day, so I can't wait to see what they have tomorrow!  Hurry though, once their product sell out, they're gone!

Wordless Wednesday

Just don't tell him I posted ;)

(Mommy needed a quick break, so passed off Tiny Man, Hotsling and all.  Daddy decided to be cute..he would NEVER carry him around like this, the sling is too small for him to wear properly.)

More participants here!

Cloth

Nothing like a little boy in some fluff!  Here's Tiny Man in a Happy Heiny XS diaper!  Too cute!

I used cloth for Talker Man until I got pregnant with our angel baby and couldn't take the smell.  After that, he would scream and say, "Take it off" whenever I would put a cloth diaper on him, so he's been in Luvs ever since.  I got Tiny Man a few cloth diapers and ended up being gifted a ton of disposables and, well, they're just easier most days!  (Plus it's hard to put cute pants on him when his butt is so big, hehe.)  Anyway, I'm sure I'll get better with the cloth as summer arrives and he can just wear a shirt and diaper and be warm.

As you can see, these are getting a tiny bit small..hopefully he starts fitting in the mediums soon (the size we have the most of because that's the only size Talker Man really wore) and I won't have an easy excuse to not use them!

Woo! I won something!

Much thanks to Mommy Reporter and My Blog Spark!  I won my very first giveaway!  Heck, it could very well be the first thing I've won since..well..we won't go there, but it's been a long time!

Lookie what the FedEx man had for me today!

(Talker Man was hoping there was "toys in 'ner?"  And seemed bored with our new butter dish and knife.  I, however, am excited because we don't have a nifty knife such as this OR a butter dish!  I'm a kitchen tools junkie without one, imagine that!  Oh, and rock on with the free biscuits!  I'm easily pleased!)

What a day!

Today I had the day off from scheduled work so the boys and I headed to my parent's house since we don't get out that way very often these days.  We had fun, Talker Man got his birthday gifts and got to play hard and run around like a maniac (it's not easy to do that in our apartment since we can't be too noisy!).  I hopped on the scale with Tiny Man and discovered he already weighs 13 pounds!  Wow!  When we (finally) got home, I was happy to find a package with my first "official" review product inside!  Yay!!  Keep your eyes peeled for that in the next week or so, I'm very excited!

In addition, I popped on here to find I had received awards!!  Much thanks to Mom vs the Boys, My Life in High Heels and MN Small Town Mom!  This blog is just under 2 weeks old and already has 35 followers and 3 awards!  Thank you so much!  Now, to pass the torch!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Today Talker Man and I are making tissue paper hearts!  These are made with a three year old in mind, so obviously older kids could make them a little more 'professionally'!  We're going for fun factor, not perfection.

You'll need:
Pink, red and/or white tissue paper, cut or torn into approximate 1” squares
Card stock or construction paper
White glue
Scissors
Pencil

All you have to do is cut a heart shape out of your card stock or construction paper (we're using card stock because I have the feeling there will be a lot of excess glue!).  We put our glue onto a plastic butter container lid, making for easy dipping since he's a little younger.  Next, just ball up your squares of tissue paper, dip them in a bit of glue and stick it to your heart!  Nice!  Camera is still taking a bit of a hiatus as I think it's in his room..off to go look for it now!

Happy Valentine's Day all!!

I just want a peaceful shower!

Dear Separation Anxiety,

Let me start off by saying that I didn't think you came so early!  Three months?  Really?  Secondly, I must say that I'm sure I will enjoy you more when the separation comes from actual separation, such as my leaving the room, the house, etc.  However, you are NOT enjoyable when the separator in question is a mere shower curtain.  Yes, I can talk through the shower curtain, no, you don't seem to notice.  Yes, I can peek around and curb your anxiety, but I really do need to wash my hair.  There are days, Separation Anxiety, that I wish you had held off a couple of more months.  At least in the shower department.

Your truly,

This mommy who would enjoy a quiet shower...even just once a week.

Make some homemade Play Doh!

Another snowy day project!  Now, as much as we love the real deal, it seems to dry out quickly in our house making it a bit expensive in the long run.  I got this recipe from my Mom and it's the one she used with us growing up!  Lots of good memories in this doh!

1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup COLD water
1/2 tablespoon oil
1/4 cup salt
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 package unsweetened Kool-aid

Mix all the ingredients together in a saucepan.  Heat either on top of the stove stirring CONSTANTLY until it all comes together in a dough ball or heat on medium in the microwave for 30 second intervals until dough ball forms.  Remove from heat and dump ball onto wax paper.  Knead until cool enough for a little person's hands.  (If you don't knead it, it gets grainy when it cools.)  Store in an airtight container.  (We use the containers from the "real stuff" and it works pretty well!)

We made this last night and I took pictures to post, but Talker Man seems to have helped the camera "disappear" so I'll update once I find it!  If you make this, please post how it went, I would love to hear it!

Free Excedrin

Need some free headache medicine?  Head over here to answer their poll and get a coupon in the mail for a free bottle (up to $5.99 value!) of any Excedrin product.  **Hint** Pick something other than Excedrin ;)

Snow ice cream!!

For everyone with mounds and mounds of snow, how about trying this out with the kids??

1 large bowl full of snow
1 cup white sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
2 cups milk

Place a large bowl out in the snow to catch the snow flakes (or scoop some into a bowl if it's undisturbed and deep enough to avoid grass and leaves..ew!).  Stir in the sugar and vanilla, then add enough milk to make it your desired consistency.  That's it!  Ingredients common around the house can help bring joy to bored kiddos who've been stuck inside or out of school!  Granted, it's not going to taste or look gourmet, but it's a fun activity that kids will enjoy and remember!

I got a button!

How cute is that??  Much thanks to Berries and Cream Blog Design (because I'm just not very graphically creative these days)!

Happy 3rd Birthday Talker Man!!!!

(February 9, 2007)

It seems like just yesterday I was giving birth to this handsome miracle, and now he's running and jumping around, his vocabulary is ridiculous, he goes from a sweetheart to stubborn little boy in 2.3 seconds.  I love my Talker Man head to toe..now if only he would set aside the stubborn gene enough to potty train! ;)

Nursing Bra Giveaway

Who doesn't love a good giveaway??  Head on over to Yellow Tennessee for a chance to win a Basics by Bravado nursing bra or tank of your choice of color and size!  Hurry though, it ends tomorrow (February 8) afternoon!

Superbowl Sunday!

Go Colts!

I'm not really watching the game **shocker** because I'm scheduled to work, so I'm doing so.  I keep running out and taking peeks at the score though!  I took a quick break to change Tiny Man's pants and discovered the darn cat in his crib!  He has apparently decided that this is HIS bed since Tiny Man doesn't sleep in it anyway (he sleeps in the swing..which is dying..I need to do some research as we need a new one, but I digress).

Cheaper Than Therapy

Lansinoh Goodies & Review

As I walked to the mailbox early yesterday afternoon I couldn't help but wonder if there would be anything interesting in there (you know, besides icky bills!).  To my delight, I found a package from Lansinoh!  Being the dork that I am, I was excited!  Nothing like nursing supplies to brighten one's day ;)  Anyway, I had emailed them asking if they offered sample products for new moms, and it turns out that they do!  In my little goodie envelope I found a breastfeeding brochure, a tiny tube of Lanolin (perfect for the diaper bag, you never know when this stuff will come in handy), a sample of diaper rash ointment, a 2 pack sample of disposable nursing pads, some Clean & Condition Cloths and breastmilk storage bags

Now, onto the fun part!  First of all, I had the opportunity VERY soon after opening the package to test out of the cleansing cloths.  They're super soft, lightly scented and did a pretty good job of cleaning up the mess.  I was able to use the milk storage bags with my last pumping session and they do the job, in the freezer now and I will update later after we thaw it out to make sure the bag holds up (I've had issues with another brand leaking after thawing, no good!).  The diaper rash cream I haven't had the opportunity to try as we've yet to have a diaper rash so I will update if and when we try that out too, to see that it goes on, comes off easily and to say whether it helps heal little bottoms.

Onto the lanolin!  I LOVE this stuff, you would be amazed at all the things it can help heal quickly (besides the obvious, of course).  My son has had a runny, icky nose and you know how that can turn red and irritated.  We applied some lanolin to it and it's markedly improved!  When he got his first cat scratch on his hand (apparently our 4 legged family members have decided he's big enough to gently 'get back at' for trying to carry them around) we applied some of the product and it healed overnight!  He was amazed that he couldn't find his "cat owie" anymore.  Do you have any other uses for this product?  Please comment and share!

If you're a new mom (or soon to be) then I would recommend emailing this company inquiring about their samples.  They send good size samples, enough that you can actually test the product out to ensure that it will work for your needs.
