Dapple Baby Laundry Detergent

After completing my other Dapple baby review, I was contacted about a brand new Dapple product, the Dapple Laundry Detergent!  It's hypoallergenic, made with natural-based ingredients & baking soda.  It also works great on cloth diapers (which is a must in our house!).  To boot, it's preservative-free, phtalate-free, paraben-free, SLES- & dye-free, phew!  It's free of all the yuckies, just bursting with cleaning power!

I love it for the baby clothes, everything came out soft and smelling nice (smelling clean, not perfumed). I don't use fabric softener of any kind, so this was great. It didn't get a diaper blowout completely out, but it faded it enough that it only took an hour or 2 in the sun to come the rest of the way out. I've yet to find a detergent that will actually get that mess out in one shot, but it was much lighter than any other I've tried. We're getting ready to try some solid food in the next few weeks, I can't wait to see how it does on bibs!

I didn't really like the cap/measuring lines because it was hard to tell when the clear liquid was to the line since you can see right through it, haha. I don't like to overdo it with detergent and didn't want to end up with too much, I usually use it to the "1" line and it was just hard to tell when I poured enough to hit that.

Other than that, though, I think it's pretty awesome! I like that I can use it for about anything and the clothes come out clean and they've stayed smelling clean even after being in the closet a couple of days.

Franklin Goose Promotion

Do you like writing reviews of products you've used?  Do you like earning free "money" for use on natural baby/family products?  Do you have a few minutes to spare out of your day?

If so, you may want to head over to Franklin Goose!  They're having a very special, limited time offer paying YOU for YOUR personal product reviews!  There's more info on their blog, but the gist of it is that you sign up for an account (or sign in, if you already have one) and tell them what you think of the individual products they're offering for sale.  In return, they'll give you a $5 store credit for each review you complete.  THESE NEED TO BE LEGIT!  They will NOT credit you for fake reviews, so be honest.  They can tell the difference.  This is an amazing offer!  I have yet to receive credits, the reviews are stacking up quickly and are hard to stay on top of so they're running a few days behind, but they will get to you!  This only runs until March 31, so don't wait too long.  The credits can be used for anything in their store, cloth diapers, wipes, detergent, wooden toys, adorable clothing..the list just goes on!  In addition, you can use your credit to pay for your shipping, so if you have used enough products and can complete a few reviews it can result in free products for you and your family!  Pretty amazing!

You might be wondering how they can offer up such an unbelievable deal?  They would rather put their advertising money towards the consumer for honest reviews than to taking out big magazine ads or paying agencies to advertise.  Word of mouth is a beautiful thing!

Check them out on Facebook and Twitter in addition to the above store and blog links!

Another winner!

Congrats to lucky number 12!

Ending SOON!

Hurry and get your entry in for the Boogie Wipes giveaway!  You don't want to miss this and it's ending in about a half hour!  Winner will be posted tomorrow :)

Toy Story Deal!

I'm sure by now you've already seen this deal floating around, but I was so excited to get it!  We headed out to Target yesterday to pick up Toy Story 1&2 on Blu-Ray (we're trying to get Disney movies that way, the combo packs because we got a new TV at tax time and we use the PS3 to watch movies anyway, then Talker Man has a DVD version to watch in his room on special occasions).  The movies were on sale for $22.99 each, plus you got $10 off when you purchased both at the same time.  We already had Toy Story 1 on DVD and I was able to find a UPC code online for Toy Story 2 to get another $10 off on each on the Disney Movie Rewards site (which I just signed up for and put in our movie codes from..we have over 600 points already!).  We spent $15.98 on 2 Blu-Ray/DVD combos!  Amazing!  We're very, VERY slowly building the Blu-Ray collection and I love Disney movies..we were able to find UP! a few weeks back for about $15 at Best Buy (instead of the regular $30-ish).  You can find good deals if you're patient and don't mind keeping an eye on ads!

Spotted Box!

I got my Spotted Box yesterday!  It didn't show up with the regular mail, I looked for it when I saw that it was out for delivery, and it wasn't there :(  When hubby went to make a late night run to Walmart for some ginger ale he found it waiting on the doormat!  Yay!  Have you ever gotten a box?  It's pretty awesome.  This was my first one and I wasn't sure what to expect.  I know they aren't as "hard to get" as they were in the past, but I wanted to try my luck!  I'm pretty satisfied, I got some adorable goodies!  A hat for Tiny Man, that gorgeous yarn sample that I'm going to pass on to my sister. (Maybe she can make Tiny Man a pair of socks?  Or save it to make some scrappy longies/shorties or something.)  There were a couple of wipes in there, a facial scrubby, wipe cube bits, an essential oil mix that I can put on the fabric patch in our wetbag to make it smell nice..plus a ton of other great stuff!

Anyway, what's the Spotted Box, you ask?  Well, it's a collection of sample goodies made by WAHMs (and Dads, I suppose, if the case arises!)  It's an easy way to find new favorites that you may not have found otherwise!  They only stock one day a month and they can be hard to get!  The next one won't come about until April, so keep your eyes peeled if you want to get in on a box of surprises!

Sickness!

We all woke up feeling a bit under the weather today, Talker Man has another cough, hubby and I have sore throats and the beginnings of coughs.  I decided to whip up a pot of homemade chicken noodle soup and some homemade bread.  I figured it would get the house smelling yummy and help combat the cold.  Well.  I enjoyed my soup and bread..hubby fell asleep and sleepily told me he wasn't hungry and Talker Man wanted the bread, but wouldn't touch the soup.  *sigh*  I have a huge pot of yummy chicken noodle soup that cooked for hours and I'm the only one that ate any!  Oh well, it was delicious ;)  I think I'm going to pack it away into some containers and freeze it for the next time.  If nothing else, it'll be a tasty, easy lunch!

Funny little bit, I ran to the store to pick up a few things and figured I might as well grab some orange juice while I was at it.  Most of the OJ was gone!  Apparently we aren't the only ones in town that are sick!

Just wanted to pass along..

I know it's a bit late in the day, but Kids Woot has Little Einstein's Rocket's Tub Adventure available today for $7.99 (+$5 shipping).  Talker Man got a large Little Einstein's bath set for Christmas and this was included..he LOVES it.  It really gets his imagination going, the submarine goes on adventures under the bubbles, the turtle floats around, and the little "guy" that comes with the set available is the "Daddy" in his imaginary adventures and his set has a woman "guy" that he calls the "Mommy."  It's beyond cute and I wanted to pass the link on as soon as I saw it!

Rockin' Green Review

I’m in LLOOVEEE with Rockin’ Green laundry soap! It smells delicious, it gets my diapers (and clothes, towels and sheets) clean and there’s no leftover smell! I was sent the Grape Soda scent. I’m not usually a fan of grape, but this is amazing! I’m not currently in a battle with “stinkies” and I hope to continue using Rockin’ Green to avoid them! If you DO have a case of the “stinkies” they recommend filling your washer with hot water, adding 3 tablespoons of Rockin’ Green detergent and adding your diapers (of course!). Let them soak for 30-60 minutes, then run your machine as usual. This can be repeated any time your diapers need a deep clean. If your diapers have a lot of buildup and residue, it make take more than one soak to get everything out.
Onto the yummyness that is Rockin’ Green!

What “flavor”?

Grape Soda is definitely not the only scent available, they also have: Unscented, Fresh Linen, Baby Powder, Cherry Almond (the one I want to order, sounds so yummy!), Vanilla Lavender, Monkey Snacks, Cherry Lemonade (another I would love to try, it sounds summery!), Vanilla Buttercream (um, I’d like to try this one too, haha), Mango Sorbet, and Peppermint cocoa.

What kind?

There are also different versions, there’s the Classic (original formula, perfect for moderate hard water or to cure the stinkies), Soft (designed for sensitive skin or soft water) and Hard (which is for difficult water types and is just now beginning to get shipped out for purchase). If you aren’t sure which one to get, they recommend trying the Classic.

What’s in it?

The ingredient list is pretty short, simply sodium carbonate, sodium percarbonate, sodium citrate, sodium sulfate, surfactants, and fragrance oils (if you choose a scent, of course). This means it’s safe for all cloth diapers because it’s free of dyes, enzymes, whiteners and brighteners.

What I think!

Overall, I think Rockin’ Green would be a really good purchase. It’s safe for using for just about anything and it smells amazing. There’s no scent left when you’re done with the wash load, so it’s most enjoyable when you’re adding the detergent to the laundry. It’s nice that your items wash clean, there’s no need for a cover-up smell when things are truly clean! My sample packet is almost gone, I’m looking into placing my order as soon as I can!

Share it!

Have you tried it? If so, feel free to share! Just post a comment and let us all know what your favorite scent is or how well it works for you.

Stealing Sunday

I stole this from You Have How Many Kids???  If you steal it from me, please leave me a comment so I can go check out your answers too!

1. What were doing 10 years ago? I was a freshman in high school (if I have my years added up correctly, ha!) doing who knows what!

2. Five snacks that you enjoy in a perfect, non weight-gaining world

- Donate to some awesome cause or be one of those people who actually has money to surprise random people with their meal paid for at a restaurant, hehe.
- Be an actual SAHM and spend more time with my kiddos.

4. Three of your habits:
- I talk to the cats.
- Check my email probably every 3 minutes (literally, I'm stuck on the computer all day working, so I look for something exciting to come along)
- I sniff all the diapers that come out of the dryer to make sure there's no stink..hubby thinks I'm a wackadoo.

20. Do you worry that others will judge you from reading some of your answers?
- I don't care, I'm being honest.  :)

Boogie Wipes Review and Giveaway

Holy boogies! By some twist of fate I was sent a package of Boogie Wipes to review for you all! Could it have come at a better time? Unfortunately, no. We've had a bout of icky colds running through the house…for everyone except me, of course! I'm feeling mine come on, but everyone else needs to get healthy first or it'll just be miserable, haha. Anyway! This product, which is "Snot Your Average Wipe," is a little wonder wipe! When I carried the box up from the mailbox, Talker Man said, "For mmmeeee? I box for mmmeeeee?" I said, "Yes, buddy, for you!" He was so excited to open it, and when he did he wasn't sure what they actually were, but so long as they were for him, he was overjoyed. When I told them they were his special tissues, just for him, he got a huge smile on his face and was ready and willing to try them out! This from the child that runs screaming around the house like someone in a horror movie as soon as you bring out a regular tissue or a baby wipe for his face and nose. He loves them! Heck, I love them just because he loves them! I was able to use them on Tiny Man as well, and I caught hubby using them too.  They wipe wonderfully and there's no screaming crying involved.

What is it?

Boogie Wipes are made with saline, which helps to dissolve mucus without having to "scrub" it off. They're gentle enough for all ages, they're available in local stores, they smell great, and make colds that much easier on kids! What more can you really ask for?

The amazing Boogie Wipes were created by a pair of moms in 2007 when they decided to come up with a better way to soothe their own kid's noses.

Win it!

The mama's behind Boogie Wipes have graciously agreed to allow me to give away 2 packages of 30 count wipes in a surprise combination of fresh, grape or menthol.

Crafty mama!

I apologize for my slacker weekend of no posts!  We were a bit busy and I had to work.   Anyway, here's a picture post to brighten your day ;)

I've been seeing wool dryer balls all over etsy and hyena cart and, to be honest, didn't want to spend the money on something I could do myself!  I took the boys and headed to my parent's house to enlist the help of my little sister!  (She and my mom both knit, I don't have the patience.)  She and I went to Joann's, with our 40% off coupons in hand, to pick up some yarn!  We used a guide we found online.  The first 7 inch diameter balls were made with "icky" (read: Not so pretty) yarn that they had leftover from various things.  Then we washed them and added on another layer of the pretty yarn that we had picked up at the store.  No pictures of the creating, unfortunately, but here is the final product!

They seem to work pretty well, I stick them all in there for each load, not too shabby!  I'm not sure if they really cut down on the dry time because I always set it on auto dry and I don't really pay attention to the clock.  I will say that if you forget to fold over your Velcro diaper tabs, the yarn balls WILL get stuck ;)

While we were at the fabric store, we wandered around a bit and ended up in the fabric section.  I've been wanting to try cloth wipes, but, again, I didn't see the point in paying for something that I could do myself.  (And I swear, I'm about as uncrafty as they come..I CAN do it, I just don't generally have the attention span.)  I picked out 4 flannel fabrics, 1/4 yard each, and a yard of some no pill fleece to use on the backs.  My grand total at the store was $20.81 and I got enough fabric to make a few dozen wipes and 6 yarn balls, plus with the extra yarn (and there was quite a bit since we used older stuff for the middles) my sister is going to crochet Talker Man some play food.  If I'd bought any of that stuff online it would have cost MUCH more.  It pays to DIY.

Onto the wipe making pictures!  Yay!  We just kind of winged it for these, I mean really, how hard is it to make wipes?  I used ALL the fabric so there were a few smaller ones that we're using as nose wipes, face wipes, tiny burpies, whatever, I just didn't see the point in wasting.

First I cut all my fabric, in approximate 7 x 7 squares, some were 8 x 8, some were 6 x 6 and there were a few tall, skinny ones from the leftover fabric.

Thanks, mom, for taking such a cheesy picture of me..and my bad hair day ;)

Our fabrics, I didn't buy the handprint flannel, Mom had that on hand so we could do some testers to see how we were going to do it.  We got a TON of wipes out of that fabric, lol.  We have pirates, dinosaurs, monkeys, and guitars, all were backed with a dark brown no pill fleece.  We don't have a serger so we zig zagged the edges and then pinking sheared them to help with unraveling.  (My sister did this, I'm not putting her up on here since I'm too lazy to see if she wants to be posted on my blog, lol.)

Even Talker Man had a project!

Part of the finished product!  I still have quite a few left to sew, but I'm pretty proud of them!

Yo Gabba Gabba!

Yooooooooooo Gabba Gabba!!  I can hear it now.  My son LOVES "Gabba Dabba" and it gets him up and moving.  Ask him to show you his "funny face" and he instantly sticks his tongue out and wiggles it around, shaking his head and dancing all the while.  We were watching Nick Jr. a couple of weeks ago and there happened to be a commercial on that Yo Gabba Gabba! Live! There's a Party in my City!  Was going to be playing (relatively) locally.  I didn't catch the date because I didn't really think we would have the opportunity to go.  Turns out I was mistaken!  In an amazing twist of fate we were given tickets for our family to go to the show!

Win it!

Not only that, but I was given 4 tickets to offer as a giveaway!  If you, or anyone you know, will be in the Fort Wayne, Indiana area on March 19, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. and would like to go to the show at the Historic Embassy Theatre, please leave me a comment!  If there's more than one I'll be turning to the random.org number generator to help me choose!  Make sure I have a way to contact you by email, either in your comment or on your visible profile.

Hurry, this will end March 10!  This is an easy giveaway, the only requirement is that you're a follower, will already be in the area and able to attend, and have a kiddo who would love to go to the show!

Did you know?

Yo Gabba Gabba! is gearing up for it's star studded third season!  It starts March 8 and the first week has an amazing lineup!  Sarah Silverman, Mos Def, Weezer and other guests will be on the season premiere and Weird Al Yankovic, Anthony Bourdain, Devo along with recurring guest stars Biz Markie (LOVE his clips!), Mark Mothersbaugh, Jack McBraver and Paul Scheer will be checking in throughout premiere week!  Here's a sneak peak at the new season's first week!

* Monday, March 8 – “Circus” – Weird Al Yankovic plays the circus ringmaster; Sarah Silverman teaches the “Time to Mime” dancey dance and Black Kids sing the original Yo Gabba Gabba! song, “We Love Clowns.” The episode also features Jack McBrayer and Paul Scheer telling a “Knock Knock” joke and Mark Mothersbaugh in his “Marks’ Magic Pictures” segment.

* Tuesday, March 9 – “Bugs” – Weezer performs an original Yo Gabba Gabba! song, “My Friends Are All Insects” and Mark Mothersbaugh is featured in his “Mark’s Magic Pictures” segment. The episode also features a special remix segment arranged by Travis Barker.

* Wednesday, March 10 – “Doctor” – Anthony Bourdain plays the doctor when Toodee gets sick. Of Montreal performs an original Yo Gabba Gabba! song “Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, Toast!” and Biz Markie is featured in the “Biz’s Beat of the Day” segment.

* Thursday, March 11 – “Superhero”– Mos Def plays a superhero; Devo performs their song “Watch Us Work It;” Biz Markie is featured in the “Biz’s Beat of the Day” segment and The Aquabats perform a “Numbers” segment.

* Friday, March 12 – Encore of “Circus

It all sounds pretty much amazing, in our opinions!   And hey, as a mom, I'm all about new episodes..especially when we've got almost all of the others memorized!

This giveaway has ended, thank you!

We have a winner of the TRU Giftcard!

Congrats to #28!

Dapple Baby Review

Since I first became a mama 3 years ago I’ve been doing the best I can to make sure products I use in my home are safe for little ones to be around. I read labels. I look up ingredients that I don’t recognize. I double check almost everything! Some might say I’m a little paranoid, but I don’t want my kiddos exposed to anything potentially harmful to them or that might be detrimental to their health! I was recently given the opportunity to review a couple of products from Dapple and I was excited to see that they were natural cleaners, safe for babies and kids!

A little about the company from their website, “When we first became moms, we found a market full of “baby-friendly” products – from gentle laundry detergent for babies’ clothes, to mild shampoo for babies’ hair. But there was nothing specific for the very items that our babies put into their mouths each day – their baby bottles, cups, and dishes. The dish soap products we used left a synthetic fragrance behind, and we were always concerned about lingering suds. We also soon noticed a persistent odor and film on our bottles that conventional dish liquids never fully removed.

It became our mission to find a better way – and create a line of products that were natural and safe for our babies, but also specifically targeted to clean the unique messes they leave behind. With the help and hard work of several experienced pediatricians and a team of seasoned green chemists, Dapple was born.”

I was sent a travel size Dapple Dish Liquid as well as travel size Dapple Toy Cleaner Wipes. I wasn’t exactly sure what I was going to try the dish liquid on, mainly because Tiny Man doesn’t use bottles, rarely uses pacifiers, doesn’t “play” with toys too yet and Talker Man is a little beyond the plastic toys and sippy cups. (Plus our apartment has a dishwasher, a serious blessing!) The opportunity soon presented itself though. My beautiful Tiny Man was wearing one of his G diapers when he decided to fill it and manage to, eh, make a bit of a mess on the liner. I’ve read that the liners can stain and get icky looking, and I was dreading that a bit! I NEVER would have put regular dish soap on it, who knows what is really in that stuff and do I really want that right next to my little guy’s skin? Not particularly. Enter the Dapple Dish Liquid!! I rinsed the liner first with water and then hand scrubbed with some of the Dapple, honestly figuring that it was stained and I would just have to deal with it. No! The Dapple got it right out! Even from the elastic! I was ecstatic, to say the least. Throughout the day I got to try it out a couple more times. It worked every time and my liners still look brand new! When my bottle runs out I’m for sure getting some more from our local Babies R Us! A bit unconventional, but everything has more than one purpose.

I can’t forget the Toy Cleaner Wipes, they’re pretty amazing too. I wish they were a tad bigger, but I love the way they feel and smell. I used them to clean off the plastic parts of the baby’s swing after a catastrophe style mess and they did wonderfully! I didn’t have to worry about him going right back in it or waiting on it to dry, it was great! These are going in the diaper bag, I know they’re going to have lots of awesome uses!
