Charlie's Soap Review

I feel like I've tried so many variations of laundry detergent that there couldn't possibly be a large difference.  I was wrong!  When I was given the opportunity to try Charlie's Soap I didn't really know much about it.  In doing a bit of research, I discovered that it wasn't originally made to be used in the laundry!  It was originally made for cleaning oily machines!  This sounded good to me, hubby is always helping friends out with their cars and comes home covered from head to toe in car grease/oil/muck.

Charlie's Soap does SO much more than just that!  I ran an empty load with a couple of towels/rags, as directed, to clean out my machine of residual goo from typical detergents.  I didn't notice an obvious difference, I clean the machine every so often anyway with vinegar/lemon juice, but I figure an apartment washer probably has all kinds of gunk in it that I don't even what to know about!

We have been using Charlie's for all of our loads lately, even the diapers, because it's safe for those too!  I've been noticing a pretty big difference in the level of softness in our clothes, it really does seem to have "stripped" all the extra residue left behind by other detergents because everything just feels softer!  You get 80 or so loads out of the small bag, which is very impressive!

Let me get back to the gross, greasy clothes!  I ran a couple pairs of jeans, a couple of shirts and some socks (really, greasy socks?) through the load with the recommended amount of Charlie's Soap and IT CAME OUT!!  I was amazed!  Usually when he gets his clothes THAT bad, they're destined to be "work clothes" from then on out, simply because I can't get it out, no matter what detergent combinations I try.  Now we've solved that problem!  It didn't leave a lot of greasy residue in the washer either, which I really liked.  I did run a load afterwards to clean it again, but it probably wasn't necessary.  (I'm just paranoid of that greasy smell getting on the kid's clothes.)

As a side note, hubby used some of the powdered soap to wash his hands and it cleaned them up better than the orange cleaner he usually uses..his hands were virtually grease-free, which is amazing.  (He chose to use the powdered because he felt like the grains would make a difference in how much grease would come off, sort of like a pumice soap.)

We were also sent some of the Charlie's All Purpose Cleaner which I've been using to clean all of the spills that Talker Man seems to make on our carpet.  It's been working wonders!  I love that it doesn't have harsh fumes and I don't have to worry about the kids or pets breathing it in or accidently stepping on it when it's still damp.  We haven't used the All Purpose Cleaner as much as the laundry powder, but we're very happy with it as well!!

Charlie's Soap is said to be able to clean anything, and for us, it's been able to clean up everything we've thrown at it!  I'm in love with this stuff, I can't believe we didn't try it sooner!  It'll be a staple in our laundry room, especially with the clothes it's already been able to "save" and the money we're saving in being able to actually get the carpet stains up (since we're renting, juice stains on carpet = NOT good).

(I was sent full size samples of both of the products listed above to test and review.  I have given my honest opinion and received no monetary compensation.)

Happy Memorial Day!

Now..let's remember what the day is really about :)

Dr. Bloom's Chewable Jewelry Review and Giveaway

Some of you may remember last month when I had the opportunity to review some of Dr. Bloom's Chewable Jewels.  I was given the opportunity to do another review and host a giveaway as well!!

My Tiny Man is STILL teething, he finally has the beginnings of both middle bottom teeth showing and it's been a long, slow process!  He has better hand/eye/mouth coordination now and the Chewable Jewels go straight where they're supposed to!  This time, I was given the opportunity to review the Deep Sea Blue Circle Slide necklace and bracelet combo.  I chose this one because it's (obviously) shaped differently from the rectangle slide necklace and bracelet combo I chose before.  From time to time he sticks the rectangle too far in his mouth, which will be IDEAL for molars, not so much for those front chompers we currently have coming in.

Unfortunately the pictures I took this time around didn't come out as well as I'd hoped (bad camera or bad photographer?  Who knows ;) ) so I'm using a stock one this time.  Tiny Man's asleep or I'd try to get some more!  Anyway, this is a beautiful combo as well and he loves to chew on both the necklace and the bracelet!

As a bit of a reiteration of my previous post, Dr. Bloom's Chewable Jewelry is created (and endorsed!) by dentists, made with FDA approved materials free of phthalates, lead, BPA, PVC and latex. It's waterproof and dishwasher safe too!
As you may be able to tell, there is a wonderful selection of colors and shapes available, the necklaces and bracelets I mentioned as well as keychains which would probably be great to attach to a diaper bag zipper!

Buy it!

The jewelry (including keychains) is currently selling for just under $20, which I think is a great deal for a products that you can feel comfortable wearing and double as "chewies" for your little one.

Win It!

I've been offered the opportunity to host a giveaway of 1 combo pack of the winner's choice!

I'm back!!

It's been a terribly long week with no internet around this house!!  There was some trouble with the splitter coming into our apartment complex and we've had on again-off again internet for a few weeks, but it finally conked out a few days ago, leaving us high and dry!  They got everything replaced and now we have super fast internet again!  (Bonus, because of all the issues and the number of times we had to call about our service being out, we may be getting a complete free month of all their services, woohoo!)  This was HORRIBLE since I work online, so I have a lot of explaining to do on that front.

Anyway!  I'm hopefully back for the long term this time!!

Just because

I wanted to apologize quickly for the lack of "real" posts.  I've had a lot of review/giveaway type posts up, I love doing them!  I've been swamped with work lately and that seems to be all I can squeeze in some days.  I don't want to wish away the extra work, but I did want to let you know why there haven't been posts other than review/giveaways and memes!

And here's a cutie picture..even though it's not Wednesday ;)  He was "talking" to his buggy friend on his circle seat!  (The greatest baby invention ever, I swear!)

U*neaks Review and Giveaway

When I first stumbled onto U*neaks footwear while looking for some new shoes for Talker Man, I was impressed!  They looked unique (no pun intended ;) ) and like something he would really wear!  He loves decorated socks..which I fully take responsibility for because I have a weakness for them too..and there are days when everything sets him off in a tizzy and putting shoes on because he can't see his socks has, sadly, has been the cause of more than one tantrum.

Here's a snippet from the U*neaks website to tell you a bit more about them:

"U*neaks patented customizable footwear are sneaker style shoes with side clear panel windows and specially designed socks that allow kids to continuously customize their shoes by simply changing their socks. Pair the shoes with any of U*neaks’ double-sided decorated socks for footwear that’s fun and chock full of personality.

U*neaks brand of customizable footwear was created by Ingenuity Express Corp. in Somerset, NJ. The footwear concept was invented and developed by company founders Steve Braynock and Jeff Gabriele, Ingenuity Express’ CEO. Both Rutgers University alum, Steve Braynock, came up with the product concept in 1990 and shared it with Jeff in 2003. Together they developed U*neaks, which included a collaboration with the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in Manhattan, N.Y. On September 9th, 2008 Steve and Jeff were awarded patent number 7,421,806 for their customizable footwear system."

Seriously, the coolest shoes I've ever seen!  We were allowed to pick a pair of shoes for review (we were sent several pairs of socks too!  They were so generous!!) and I chose the Camel Rev for Talker Man to try out.  He gets SO many compliments on these shoes!  Everyone loves them!  I chose them because they have a little bit of a "skate shoe" look to them, in my opinion and I love that look on my little man.

He got several pairs of socks, but his favorite by far were the Melman ankle socks.  He loves Melman (from Madagascar the movie), we all love Melman around here and I have trouble some days getting him to wear another pair of socks!

Buy It!

If you're interested in buying a pair of these awesome shoes, be sure to check out Shoebuy.com where you can receive free shipping, free returns and a 10% discount on U*neaks by simply clicking on that link entering the coupon code UNEAKS at checkout.

Scentsy Review and Giveaway

I've heard about Scentsy products off and on, but never really checked them out until recently.  Wow!  I was missing out!!  Scentsy was originally created in 2003 by  stay-at-home mom Kara Egan and her sister-in-law Colette Gunnell.  Their first scent, Red Delicous, was made in ice cube trays.  (I think that's so cool, that this is company's product came from trial runs involving ice cube trays.)   Scentsy was bought by Orville and Heidi Thompson in May 2004 and has rapidly become the company it is today!

I was sent the Nantucket warmer which, by the way, completely matches our main bathroom's nautical theme, so I'm in love with it!  I was also sent 3 Scentsy bars in Sweet Pea & Vanilla, Camu Camu, and Welcome Home.  They all smell amazing and I've been very impressed!  The scents are designed to last approximately 40-80 hours per piece and there are 8 pieces per bar.  That means each bar could last a maximum 640 hours (assuming my math is correct), which is WAAAAAYYY more than a candle!  I leave ours on in the bathroom during the day and have occasionally forgotten to turn it off at night.  Our first scent piece lasted just over a week on that usage, which is about as long as I would want it to last before switching out to something different.

Buy it!

If you'd like to purchase Scentsy products, head over here to find a consultant in your area.  If you would rather support a fellow blogger, head here!

This giveaway has ended, congratulations to the winner!

SodaStream Review and Giveaway

Have you all heard of the SodaStream?  It's this totally awesome do-it-yourself soda making appliance!  It looks amazing, it works wonderfully, it's better for the environment (think no more aluminum cans!) and best of all, it saves you money!

Here's a bit from the SodaStream website:

Making carbonated water and soft drinks is simple! Turn tap water into sparkling water in under 30 seconds, with no clean-up. Enjoy the freshness and convenience of homemade soda and protect the environment at the same time. No heavy bottles to carry, store at home or throw away. Fizz to your taste and add the flavor of your choice to make your favorite drink. Simple to clean and reuse. With a variety of colors and silhouettes, you'll be sure to find a soda maker to match with any decor.

Photo Review

We were sent the Fountain Jet in black/silver along with a selection of flavorings to review.  I love that the colors match our other small appliances and it fits right in!  My husband has been using it daily and I don't see it getting put away any time soon!

(I had to post this, directions?  Really? He never looks at directions!)

Hubby loves to put stuff together for me, he says it makes him feel loved and needed (awww!!) so I took the role of photographer again (I'm sorry, I tell you, my pictures aren't very professional!).  First he flipped through the directions, he wanted to make sure he got the carbonator on right and to see how to carbonate the bottles..the rest was pretty easy!  He said he liked the ease of getting it all put together.

First he put on the actual soda bottle full of water.

Then he inserted the carbonator.

I didn't get a picture of the carbonation process because I got to do that part!  You push the button until it makes a loud buzz.  We had it make the buzz sound 3 times which is the level for typical carbonation.

We let Talker Man pick out the flavor, he chose lemonade!  This is hubby measuring out the correct amount of flavoring.

You then slowly pour the measured amount into the bottle of carbonated water, put the cap on and shake gently.  A note from my hubby..he says that you can't pour all of the flavoring in and then race to put the cap on before the soda overflows the bottle..the soda/carbonation wins every time.  Something maybe only my hubby would do, but I doubt it ;)

Talker Man being the official taste tester of SodaStream Lemonade!

How does it taste..REALLY?

My husband has been using this multiple times per day, he especially likes the Cola and Energy varieties.  I have tried each kind that he's made, but the flavorings are all made with Splenda sweetener and it doesn't react very well in my body (my heart races and I get shaky, boo!).  I do enjoy the flavors, I wish I could drink more than a few sips!  The Energy type is pretty exceptional, we both really enjoy the flavor and it's SO much cheaper than the energy drinks you get at the store or gas station!  (.20 per serving instead of $2 per can!)  The flavoring bottles cost between $4.99 and $6.99 and make about 33 cans of pop (soda)..that's cheaper than a case of 24 cans around here!

Is there something available that is Splenda-free?

SodaStream also makes a MyWater flavoring for seltzer/sparkling water that is unsweetened..I can see myself trying that in the future!  I'm trying to curb my soda habit, but the flavors they have sound delicious!

How long is it good?

SodaStream recommends that you only purchase what you can use within 3-4 months..here's a little more information on that from the SodaStream website:

Sodamix bottles feature a "best before" date which relates to optimal taste. Rest assured that sodamix can safely be consumed well beyond this “best before” date, however peak taste is ensured by consuming prior to this date. Sodamix will typically arrive at your home with about 3-4 months remaining prior to the “best before” date, therefore please order no more than a 3-4 month supply of sodamix.

For longest shelf life, please keep tightly closed and store in a cool, dry place

Are you interested yet??  Would you like to win one??

Home Lighting.

I"m a sucker for home lighting.  It's one of the things few things I dislike about living in an apartment, all the ceiling lighting pretty much has to stay as is.  (We're hoping to get into a house of our own before too much longer!)  I mean, I can't WAIT to have a girl (if that should ever happen) because I'm already planning out the nursery chandelier.  As I was browsing around CSN Lighting's vast selection, I found this adorable little thing!

Isn't it awesome??  Nothing like a purple chandelier!  Of course, if that isn't your style, they have TONS of other lighting options, indoor, outdoor, chandeliers, wall sconces..heck, they even have lamps in the shapes of cats!  (My hubby would never allow me without poking fun..but, I would love to have one on my desk!)

If you like, head over to the CSN Lighting store and tell me your favorite lamp option and what you would use it for..real or imaginary..it's always fun to imagine what you can do with things!  You're never too old for that :)

I'm excited to tell you to keep an eye out on my blog for a CSN review coming soon!

Ending tonight!

Don't forget the Seventh Generation Natural Baby giveaway ends tonight!  Hurry and get in any last minute entries..it only takes one entry to win!

Passion Spice Review and Giveaway

Sexy nursing bras.  What?  Is there such a thing?  They must be uncomfortable, they must be super expensive, etc, etc, etc.  Well, I'm here to tell you YES there is such a thing and they're very comfortable and not overly expensive.  Thanks to Passion Spice you can look and feel beautiful in none other than the nursing bra!  Their slogan, "Being a Mom Doesn't Mean You Stop Being a Woman" is something I find to be very, very true.

Now, me?  I love nursing.  I hate the typical bras that you find, they feel "granny-ish" to me, totally not my style.  I like fun and funky, bright colors, all that jazz.  It makes me feel good about myself.  When I found Passion Spice I was more than a little excited when they agreed to sponsor a review and giveaway!  Really??  A review for something I (desperately) need?  I'll admit it, I've been hauling around in the same boring black nursing bra that I bought when Tiny Man was a couple of weeks old.  I bought it because I figured the girls would go down and I'd just have to buy another, smaller, one.  Eh, no.  But somewhere along the line a couple more were never purchased. =/  (I have a couple of nursing tanks that I wear too, so maybe it's not SO bad..)

I chose the GORGEOUS Carla Orchid Underwire Nursing Bra and matching Carlie Tap Pant bottoms (in the same orchid color, stock picture is black and, um, I love ya'll, but I'm not going to scare you and post myself modeling them, haha.)

Let me tell you, they are SO SOFT and have a silky feel thanks to the micofiber fabric.  I wasn't sure if they would actually be comfortable, but it's like not even wearing anything.  I don't know that I've found a more comfortable bra, nursing or otherwise.  I love the little ribbons weaving through both the bra and panties, it gives them a touch of delicate beauty.

In addition to the bras and panties, Passion Spice has some beautiful maternity lingerie!  I wish I'd found the website when I was pregnant, nothing like being akward and pregnant, trying to squeeze into something sexy..it just doesn't have quite the same effect..trust me, you just feel a little goofy even if your hubby (or significant other) doesn't mind!

Their website is very easy to navigate, it brings up your various choices and when you click on something you like, it shows you the bottoms to match.  It makes it easier than hunting through each individual piece, trying to see what else comes in the color you chose or which panties really match the bra you're looking at, or vice versa.  Because face it, sometimes our computer time is interrupted.  The easier and faster it is to find what you're looking for, the better and Passion Spice really nailed it on the convenience and easy navigation of their site!

Win it!

Giveaway has ended, thank you to all who entered and congrats to the winner!

Would you like to win something for yourself??  Passion Spice has graciously offered one of my lucky readers a $25 gift certificate to spend as they choose on their website!  Awesome!!

Entries: I must be able to easily find an email address for the winner. If it isn't in your visible profile, please include it in your comment. If you're chosen and I can't find an email address, I'll be forced to choose another winner. The winner will have 48 hours to respond to my email before another winner is chosen.
