PowerCapes Review and Giveaway

If you've been reading my blog for ANY length of time, you know that we have a super hero in our midst.  He's usually called Batman, but is known by other names as well.

PowerCapes is an AMAZING resource for parents of super heroes much like myself.  They have both ready made capes and custom capes as well as blaster cuffs and masks that open that super hero's imagination further than you might think possible!  Now our little Batman (alias: "Talker Man") can save the world from dastardly villains and "keep the city safe" when "there's a problem out there!"

The day our super hero's costume arrived, it was blissfully beautiful outside.  The first nice day of the season!  We were headed down to the playground to enjoy the day and a quick stop at the mailbox changed the entire course of play!  We were going to go play with the "soft bullet" gun, and that would be why the super hero in these pictures is packing. ;)  Normally his super hero strength and superpowers are more than enough to keep everyone safe.

First we had to check it out and see if it helped him with speed.  Indeed, in his mind, he's faster than a speeding bullet!

Here, the super hero was checking his sights to make sure, if needed, that the "soft bullet" gun would help him in keeping us all safe from danger.  You can also see the amazing super hero letter hand sewn (very well, I might add) to the back of the cape.  We got a customized cape with our last name initial on it so that Tiny Man can use the cape too and it's not specified to one child.  You can also see the absolutely adorable blaster cuffs, similar to those of Buzz Lightyear -- they're a huge hit in this house!

Here is a very satisfied customer super hero, very much loving his cape, mask and mommy-purchased blaster cuffs!

This is definitely a family favorite costume!  He wears it on a daily basis, whenever he perceives there may be a problem "in the city" (like I said, he's a Batman junkie!)  This super hero's mommy loves that it's handmade, durable, the pieces are easy for him to put on and off by himself or with a little help when the mood strikes, and it washes VERY well.  Simply toss it in the washer and hang to dry!

Buy It!

You can purchase any of the pieces above on the PowerCapes website! They have the kid sizes, as modeled by our resident super hero, as well as adult sizes for the bigger super hero in us all!

Win It!

NMEDA

This post brought to you by NMEDA. All opinions are 100% mine.

NMEDA (National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association) is helping elderly and disabled people all across the United States get out of the house and into specialized vehicles personalized for their specific lifestyle and needs.  As no two people with a disability are exactly the same, beware of adapted wheelchair vehicles sold over the internet or through catalogs.  Just go directly to a NMEDA dealer.  You can find local dealers by going to the NMEDA website and typing in your zip code or state.  (I did it and found two not far away!  That's saying something since we live out in a relatively rural area.  Check it out, you may be surprised!)

NMEDA also offers a QAP (Quality Assurance Program) that is the only nationally recognized accreditation program for the Adaptive Mobility Equipment Industry.  It's based on the principle that in order to satisfy customers consistently, companies must have a systematic and documented approach to quality.

BabyLegs Review and Giveaway

BabyLegs have been on my radar since Talker Man was little and starting into cloth diapers, but hubby always thought they were "for girls" (yes, even the boyish ones).  When I showed him what had recently arrived for Little Miss Princess, he said, "I knew you'd love having a girl once she finally got here and you could dress her up!"  How true that is!

The BabyLegs company came to be as the result of a diaper rash.  Yes, you read that right!  In April 2005, a young mom was trying to come up with a solution to let her little one's skin heal without leaving her chilly.  That mama snipped the feet off of a pair of socks, leaving a hip to ankle legwarmer, perfect for the need at hand!  Since then, BabyLegs has grown to include not only leg warmers, but tights and sock as well!

We were given the opportunity to try out some of these products to share our experience with you!

How cute are these leopard print BabyLegs?  I mean, REALLY!?  They have an entire selection of animal prints available and these were my favorite!  As you can see, they're a little bit big on Little Miss Princess.  I thought she'd be getting a little big for the newborn size, but that may have been a good idea.  She'll grow into the regular size in no time I'm sure!

We also got a pair of girly skull print for the days she wants to be a rocker baby.  They're one incredibly adorable piece of the Favorites collection!

It's easier to see in this picture that the regular size BabyLegs are still a little large.  With her being 3 months old now, I can only imagine how a newbie would be swimming in them. If you're looking to use BabyLegs on a newborn, I would strongly suggest getting the newborn size I mentioned above.  In this picture, you can also see the super cute baby socks!  The size on these is 0-9 months, they're still a little big on her too so I would expect them to fit a little bigger as her feet "fatten up" in the next few months.

Overall, I'm really happy with our BabyLegs products!  I love how much easier it is to slip the legwarmers on with a onesie and eliminate the need for pants.  It makes diaper changes so much more convenient and we don't have to worry about pants not fitting very well with a cloth diaper on!

Buy It!

You can purchase any of the products above on the BabyLegs website or any number of online retailers!  There are tons of adorable options!

EdenFantasys Giftcards

Please note that this is a post for ADULTS.  All images are kid-safe, but links included in this post should be opened when the kids aren't in the room.

Did you know that EdenFantasys.com has giftcards for purchase? They're absolutely adorable!!

There are available values from $25 to $100 and it's clearly the "gift that keeps on giving"!  What a great idea for a "discreet" bachelorette party gift.  Or any other occasion for that matter.  No worries about kids seeing this gift opened up for any holiday, the card makes it none-too-obvious what it's for and it's got such a fun design.  Best of all, they never expire.  Need to have an emergency, "OMG, I forgot our anniversary was today" type gift?  Have a couple of these hidden away, you'll always be in the clear and your partner will think you were on the ball more than you actually were!

New AAP recomendations on car seats!

On Monday, the American Academy of Pediatrics revised their recommendations for children 2 and under. The recommendations now say that children ages 2 and under are safer and should be rear facing until they hit the rear facing weight limit for their car seat.  Many parents are breathing a sigh of relief, I've heard and seen a lot of "FINALLY!" type attitudes. I'm sure there will be others balking at the idea of turning their toddlers back around.  It's been proven to be so much safer, I don't know why they would even think twice.

Right now, I'm ashamed to say that Tiny Man is facing forward. I CANNOT seem to get a very good rear facing install with his seat (a Cosco Scenera). It flops around like it's not even buckled in, even when it's as tight as hubby and I can get it. He would still be in our Graco SafeSeat 1 if Little Miss Princess wasn't in it. Talker Man rear faced until he was 2 and Tiny Man moved into line for the Graco bucket. We had planned on keeping Tiny Man rear facing after Little Miss Princess arrived, which is a big part of why we got the Cosco Scenera, but it's just not working in my car. I'm currently doing research into other seats, but it's so hard to tell what will physically fit in my small car with three across! I've heard amazing things about Sunshine Kids Radian seats fitting three across, but they're SO expensive and that kind of money isn't in the budget, even when it comes to the kids being safe.

I've been doing a little bit of research, in case there are other parents like me trying to figure out the best way to go about turning the little ones back around.  In my unprofessional opinion, infant-style bucket seats are safer because of the additional protection provided, so I'm going to start with those.  If possible, if baby isn't here yet or you're looking to replace a seat you already have, find one with a high weight limit.  I was only able to find two with the high weight limit, I sincerely hope some other brands follow suit so that little ones don't get turned around earlier than recommended.

Obviously my favorite here would be Graco because it's the only infant seat we've used.  Ours is a SafeSeat 1, from Talker Man, but they also now have the Snug Ride 35, a rear facing seat from 5 to 35 pounds and 32 inches tall (essentially the same thing with a different name):

The Snug Ride 35 has a LATCH-equipped, stay-in-car base with a one-hand dial adjustment to ensure the proper installation angle, and an integrated belt lock-off to further simplify installation. As long as your base is installed correctly, there's no worries once you click your baby's seat in!  The Snug Ride 35 pictured above retails for about $160.00.  That's about the price we paid for our Safe Seat 1 and it was money well spent.

Safety 1st also has a wide weight-range infant bucket, the onBoard35 Air infant car seat starts the weight a little lower, at 4 pounds so parents of preemies may want to take note!

This seat can be used for babies 4 to 35 pounds and 32 inches tall, so similar to the one above, but with the preemie-friendly weight spectrum.  It boasts the revolutionary Air Protect feature and 17% more leg room than other infant seats.  The onBoard35 Air also comes with a Base Belt Lock to assist in installation and one click LATCH installation system.  This seat is also right around $160.

Convertible seats are also an option, though maybe not as convenient as an infant bucket when your baby is tiny.  We had winter babies and chose to start with the bucket to keep the seat warmer for a newbie.  Here are a handful of convertible seats I found with higher rear facing weight limits.  I haven't had the opportunity to try them, so this is strictly informational and not from experience.

Sunshine Kids seems to win the prize for biggest rear facing weight with a range from 5 to 45 pounds.

The Radian XTSL features height adjustable aluminum reinforced head support, steel alloy frame and protective EPS foam to provide complete side impact protection.  The whole seat has a steel alloy frame and aluminum reinforced sides as well as Easy-Tite™ adjuster for quick and easy tightening, installs in 1 minute and SuperLATCH™ installation up to 80 lbs (no seat belt required).  The safety features on this seat appear to be about a mile long and, as I said, if we could afford 3 of these, this is what would be in our car and all three kids would be rear-facing, no arguments.  This seat retails for about $300.

Graco recently has come out with a new convertible seat, the Smart Seat, which fits from 5 to 40 lbs rear facing.

This seat comes with a base that sound similar to an infant bucket.  You install the base once and you're good to go!  Just snap the seat in.  The Smart Seat (and base) also have steel reinforcement.  I haven't seen too much chatter about this seat yet, but it sounds like a great one!  The $300 price tag seems a little steep, but when you think of it as an all-in-one seat (it goes up to 100 pounds forward facing), it's really not too bad.

Britax, a favorite amongst safety-conscious parents has seats such as the Boulevard 70 which rear face from 5 to 40 lbs.

The Boulevard 70 also has integrated steel bars, along with other safety features such as SafeCell™ Technology and energy absorbing Versa-Tethers®, premium lower LATCH connectors and built in seat belt lock offs.  This one has a price tag of about $310, but has a 70 lb total forward facing limit and amazing safety ratings, so it may be a good choice for you if you're looking for a seat that lasts more than a year or two.

Phew, it's really enough to make your head spin, but I hope I've at least helped a little bit in the process of figuring out which seat will be ideal for keeping your little one rear-facing as per the new guidelines!  If nothing else, I hope I've planted the little seed of interest to help you in your own research!

Disclaimer:  This post is in no way sponsored, we have not personally tried the seats above and I'm DEFINITELY not a car seat professional.  I just wanted to share some information and I hope it helps inform readers of the new guidelines and some safe options for their children.

Purex Complete with Zout Review

Purex Complete with Zout combines the proven performance of Purex detergent with the triple-enzyme stain-fighting power of Zout stain remover.

How it works:
Purex Complete with Zout contains three powerful stain-fighting enzymes.  Each enzyme targets a different type of stain:

Our experience:
When I found our box containing a bottle of Purex Complete with Zout on the porch, I immediately tested it out!  (Hey, we're a family of five and there are two babies and a preschooler - that generally equals a lot of messy clothes!)  The first load I did, I have to say, I was disappointed.  I tried it on Tiny Man's sheets where his bottle of chocolate almond milk had leaked all over the place and it didn't get the stains out (they DID fade a fair amount, however).  I figured I'd truck on through and try another load...and another...and another!  It turns out, that pesky almond milk is just a pain to get out.  I probably should have tried pre-treating with the detergent and THEN running the load.  Live and learn!

I did find the Purex Complete with Zout to get out just about every other possible stain these boys could throw at it, so I'm overall very happy with it!  I've *HEARD* that Zout can get out baby-diaper up-the-back blowouts, which I've been waiting on to happen just so I could give you the scoop on that, but Little Miss Princess has been keeping her messes very well contained lately and that opportunity just hasn't come up yet!

The new Purex Complete with Zout comes in two available fragrances: Fresh Morning Burst and Free & Clear.  We were sent the Fresh Morning Burst.  The smell was pretty good, not overwhelming and I didn't really notice a lingering smell on the clean clothes. I don't like to use detergents with fragrance on Little Miss Princess' clothes, so we may be trying a bottle of the Free & Clear variety in the future (just in case the diaper blowout test needs to be conducted ;) )!

Buy It!

Purex Complete with Zout will be available nationwide in stores such as Walmart, Target, Kroger and Publix near the end of March.  The price is less than leading brands, between $3.49 and $7.99 depending on size and retailer!  That's an amazing price seeing as how I just paid $11 (on sale) for a leading detergent brand and I'm finding the Purex Complete with Zout to work just as well!

Disclaimer: As a member of the Purex Insiders, I was sent product from the above company in return for my honest opinion and review. No other compensation was received.

GladRags Organic Nursing Pads Review & Giveaway

I've nursed all of my babies and only Talker Man did I even ATTEMPT to use disposable nursing pads.  One word: YUCK!  They're so icky feeling, definitely not something you want next to your skin if you're a first timer to nursing (or an old pro for that matter!).  I "made do" with burp rags and washcloths for the first few weeks and eventually my supply evened out and leaking wasn't such an issue.  When Tiny Man was born I came across some bamboo nursing pads that I thought were pretty cool, but they were a little big and completely obvious (in my opinion) under my shirt.  When I was recently given the opportunity to try out some of GladRags organic nursing pads, I was excited to see that they have a little flap to help with the typically bulky appearance of nursing pads!

You can adjust the nursing pad to actually fit your body instead of hoping that your body fits the nursing pad.  I love that these are made of organic cotton; they are SO soft and luxurious!  The absorbency is perfect for me.  I don't usually wear nursing pads around the house because it's just easier not to and my milk flow has regulated some (it's not hard to change your shirt if you're at home), but I find myself wearing these even when I'm not going out and about.  That's some serious comfort!

GladRags, which was founded in 1992 in Portland, Oregon by Brenda Mallory, is more widely known for their reusable menstrual pads, but they have a range of natural products for women.

You can purchase GladRags Organic Nursing Pads online for $12.99.

Giveaway Prize: One (1) package of GladRags Organic Nursing Pads.

Thursday & Friday Hops!

Yay! My week seems to be easing up a bit...hubby was sick and ended up in the ER (he has an infection :( ), the kids were sick for almost 2 weeks straight and I wasn't feeling so wonderful myself. Crossing my fingers that the worst is behind us and getting ready for a *hopefully* warm weekend that we can spend outside so the boys can run off some of their excessive energy!

How about you? What are your plans?

Flowerz In Her Hair Review and Giveaway

If you can't tell, I love, love, LOVE putting hairbows, flowers, and ribbons in Little Miss Princess' hair.  I found some absolutely ADORABLE ones at Flowerz In Her Hair and when I was given the opportunity to review a few for you, I was more than a little excited.  We were sent a variety of hair accessories and I'm so happy to be able to share them!

Flowerz In Her Hair was created by a mama like me, two boys and a beautiful girl bringing up the rear.  Of course, after two boys she (as am I) was excited to find all things girly!  After having trouble finding well priced, beautiful bows, she decided to go about making them herself...soon thereafter, Flowerz In Her Hair was born!

As you can see, they're all absolutely adorable!  I was happy to see the black/pink feathery one in the bunch because we recently got her an outfit that I knew it would match with perfectly!

See?  Super cute!  I should add that I'm pretty sure my girl is going to be a girly-girl.  I showed her the new bow as I was putting it on her head and you can see the result!  The first smile I was able to REALLY catch on camera!  She was excited by her new hairbow!

I love the simplicity of the white bow.  The quality is great, which is good because I can easily see it being one of our most used bows.  It'll go with SO many things and I can clip it on to any of her headbands to create different color combinations.  It's a little hard to tell, but it's clipped onto a black headband in this picture.

The newborn bows are hands down my favorite though!  I can't bring myself to put an actual clip in her hair yet, her head seems too new for that.  (Sorry if that sounds odd!)  I have this horrifying feeling that if I put a clip in her hair it'll either pull out her precious newborn hair or that it'll pull her hair and make her little head uncomfortable.  The newborn bows are simple!  You apply a little bit of white school glue onto the back of the bow and put it on your little one's head!  Easy!  The glue washes away with a little soap and water and the bow comes right off, no pain to baby, no lost baby hair, and they're adorable!

Buy It!

You can find these precious bows and more at Flowerzinherhair.com!  Right now they have a deal going, place any order and get a free clip holder!
