Summer Adventures with Backyard Safari Outfitters!

My little adventure seekers love to use their imaginations and play outside.  That's great, and Backyard Safari Outfitters made their summer even more fun with their fabulous adventure gear!

Unfortunately, the incredibly wet spring leading into blisteringly hot summer hasn't afforded us many days to get out and play other than on the porch, but that's okay!  We've had a lot of fun with our gear!

The base camp field shelter has clearly been a favorite at our house!  It comes with a great little mini lantern to add even more play!  We've had it set up in the house, in their bedroom (for camp outs!) and out on the porch!  To make it even more adventurous, you can add the camouflage cover (not pictured, sorry!) and make it more inconspicuous!

Coming in a close second on favoritism has been the Lazer Bug Vac -- it's great for sucking ants up off the porch to be inspected under the built in magnifying glass!

The Essential Cargo Vest has come in handy for hauling around all sorts of things and has been on many "Dino Dan" type adventures with Talker Man!  He puts it on and his imagination goes wild!

We have loved our experiences with the Backyard Safari Outfitters gear.  I love that it's real, working equipment made just for kids and their fun OUTSIDE!  It's all too easy to let kids stay indoors and these toys get them excited and wanting to go out and explore the world around them.  These products are made to last and I'm sure we'll be adventuring often in the next couple of years!

My Coke Rewards for Schools

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of My Coke Rewards for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

MCR_School_Blogger_0706[1].pdf (page 3 of 3)

I've been entering "Coke points" for My Coke Rewards for quite awhile now.  I recently got an email about My Coke rewards for schools and decided to check it out for more information!  It turns out, you can donate your "Coke points" to your school, or local schools, and help the schools out!  Schools can redeem the donated points for things like school supplies, sports equipment and other necessities!

MCR_School_Blogger_0706[1].pdf (page 3 of 3)

Not only that, but from July 13 through September 30, Sprite is giving away 25 playgrounds (worth $25,000)  to schools and they're giving consumers who purchase and enter a code from any package of Sprite/Sprite Zero an entry into the sweepstakes to help their school win. In addition, every three points donated to the school through the Sprite Spark Parks for Schools sweepstakes will give the school additional chances. Any new school that registers will be given a chance to win.

Here's how you can help your school get into the program and how to donate points!

How it works for Schools (How to Donate)
• Purchase your favorite participating Coca-Cola product (there are 15 participating brands)
• Enter codes at mycokerewards.com/schools to get points
• Pick your school and donate the number of points you would like to give
• Your school uses the points to get rewards like athletic equipment, classroom supplies and more

How it works for Schools (How to Register)
• Identify a School Coordinator to manage your school’s account.
• Go to mycokerewards.com/schools and click on “Register Today” to find your school and complete the registration process.
• Once you’ve completed registration, start spreading the word & encourage parents to donate My Coke Rewards points to support your school

So go get yourself (and your school!) involved in this fabulous program!  Leave a comment if your school is already involved, and if not, how are you planning on getting them on board?

#TheHelpMovie Prize Package

Based on one of the most talked about books in years and a #1 New York Times best-selling phenomenon, “The Help” stars Emma Stone (“Easy A”) as Skeeter, Academy Award®–nominated Viola Davis (“Doubt”) as Aibileen and Octavia Spencer as Minny—three very different, extraordinary women in Mississippi during the 1960s, who build an unlikely friendship around a secret writing project that breaks societal rules and puts them all at risk. From their improbable alliance a remarkable sisterhood emerges, instilling all of them with the courage to transcend the lines that define them, and the realization that sometimes those lines are made to be crossed—even if it means bringing everyone in town face-to-face with the changing times.

Deeply moving, filled with poignancy, humor and hope, “The Help” is a timeless and universal story about the ability to create change.

John Deere Roll 'n Go Flashlight Review and #Giveaway

The new John Deere product line from Learning Curve is rolling into stores this summer!  The hot new item for summer campouts or just fun around the house is the John Deere Roll and Go Flashlight.  Shaped like a John Deere tractor--and featuring free-rolling wheels--the Roll 'n Go Flashlight offers real light and features tractor sounds when the light is triggered.  Auto shut-off features saves batteries!  Requires three AAA batteries, included.

When we were offered the opportunity to review this flashlight for you, I knew my little country boys would be excited!  It's easy enough for Tiny Man to use and "cool enough" for Talker Man to enjoy too!  There have been several fights over this flashlight already and I'm sure there will be more to come.  That's how we know it's a good toy in this house ;)  I love that it can be a flashlight in the dark and just another rolling truck-type toy during the day.  The boys love the engine sound and love to pretend that the farmer is doing field work at night with his lights on.

Here's something that really stood out to me as I was unpacking the flashlight from it's packaging.  Those aren't plastic tether/strap things!  They're a twisted paper simply knotted!  LOVE!  I REALLY hate trying to unpack kids' toys, the plastic zip ties or those annoying twisted pieces of plastic covered wire are just awful and can fall on the floor to be played with by the cats or a kid and they just aren't safe.  Some major kudos to Learning Curve and John Deere for their environmentally/parent friendly choice in package tethers!!

Buy It!

This toy is available at Target and Toys R Us for $12.99.

Get them to eat those veggies! #peasandthankyou

Getting kids to eat vegetables can be hard, as I'm quickly figuring out!  Talker Man is NOT a vegetable eater and balks at anything resembling one.  I've come up with a few tips and tricks that I hope can help you get your kids to eat their veggies, and at the end, feel free to share any of your own tips and tricks that the rest of us may be able to adapt to use as well!!

1) Salsa.  For our house, salsa is a delicious snack and doesn't resemble vegetables in flavor or shape!  It's a great little healthy trick!

2) Spaghetti!  Another one of my tricks.  He's still young enough that he doesn't realize the red sauce is actually made of tomatoes and other healthy options!

3) Add baby food!  You know, the pureed jars that one day your baby eats and the next day they've decided are far too disgusting to be devoured?  Use them in sauces, meatloaf, burgers, whatever!  Just dump a jar in, nobody will know the difference!

4) Breads -- zucchini bread anyone?  He has no idea that it's anything more than something tasty.

5) Use dipping sauces - ranch or cheese work well here, sometimes I can get him to eat some broccoli just by telling him to dip it in a sauce.  This doesn't always work because he can visibly see the vegetable *eye roll*

6) Make a veggie pizza!  Talker Man won't eat the meat or pepperoni on a pizza so I try to use spinach, mushrooms (I have to cut them so they don't look like mushrooms), shredded carrots (they can look like cheese to a 4 year old), etc.

7) Stick it on the plate even if you don't think they're going to eat it.  Most of the time this doesn't work, but sometimes I'll catch him sneaking a bite to see how it tastes.  He doesn't know it, but that's a small victory!

8) Fruit/veggie juice, anyone?  It works here, sometimes.  If you dump it out of the container that your kid probably knows contains vegetables and put it into a plastic/glass juice container, they're more likely to drink it.  (Yes, this is from experience!)

9) For kids that will actually eat things that look like vegetables, make them fun!  Cut them into fun shapes or let them help you prepare their snack plate.

10) Keep trying.  And trying.  And trying.

I know these almost all ended up being ways to hide those vegetables, but in my house that's the only thing that's worked.  If he starts eating them off of his plate I'll be one happy mama!  On the flip side of this little coin, Tiny Man LOVES vegetables, he eats peas and green beans like they're candy and would choose them over a cookie any day.  It all depends on the kid and once you find what works, just go with it!

I wrote this blog post while participating in the SocialMoms and Peas and Thank You blogging program for a gift card worth $30. For more information on how you can participate, click here.

My Kids' Individual Styles! #jcpback2school

With 3 little ones, sometimes it can be a little difficult to establish individual clothing styles for each.  They seem to be falling into their own individual categories, which I'm sure will change when they're better able to choose what they want to wear!  I try to let them have their own say, and Talker Man is getting to the point that he likes to pick what he wants to wear, or he likes to choose things from the store that he says are "really cool" (or "weewy tool").  He tends to gravitate to the Batman and Super Hero endorsed shirts and could care less about the pants or shorts ;)  He's always been more my "preppy" style little dude, I think it's just the way he fits into clothes, that style looks best on him and he fits it well!  He can pull off polo shirts and cargo shorts with ease!

Tiny Man is more rough and tumble, I seem to choose clothes more along those lines for him.  My little skater tot, I suppose!  He looks super cute in band shirts and jean shorts or more edgy clothes.  I think it goes with his wild, curly hair and more solid body type.  He's already getting big enough to choose things that he likes and tends to pick the Thomas the Tank or Wall-E shirts that Talker Man has outgrown over the things I try to choose for him, so I'm not sure whether he's going to follow in big brother's footsteps and choosing super hero attire or if he'll do his own thing!  It's only a matter of time before we'll know and that's exciting to me!

Little Miss Princess may very well end up being a tomboy the way she enjoys playing with building blocks and toy cars, so I'm squeezing all the pink dresses and hairbows in that I can!  She's a mix of the boys, she can wear something super girly and sweet and the next day wear her skully cupcake onesie.  She's my question mark as far as individual style, but she's also only about 7 months old, so she has plenty of time to decide which end of the spectrum (or somewhere in the middle!) to choose!

With back to school right around the corner and a first time preschooler, I'm sure that the days of mommy getting to pick out the clothes and styles for Talker Man are going to be numbered.  Maybe.  He is a boy after all, and may not care what he's wearing so long as he's allowed out of the house in it!

Do you choose clothes for your kids or do they do it themselves?  What are THEIR individuals styles?

Sunny Seat Cat Bed - Review

Cats and sunshine.  They go together like, well, cats and sunshine!  I don't know of any kitties that don't enjoy basking in the sun and our cats are no exception!  The makers of the Sunny Seat Cat Bed have come up with a great way for the two to come together without having kitty fall off the windowsill or have their nap rudely interrupted by small children.

The Sunny Seat is held tight to your window with suction cups.  I love the idea, but in our apartment I shut the blinds on all of the windows when the sun goes down, so the thought of pulling suction cups off every night was a little daunting.  I took the Sunny Seat over to my parent's house to let their cats get a chance to try it out!  (And because they have a huge open area and don't have to close up the blinds on this door every night ;) )  The Sunny Seat has been up for several weeks now and hasn't had any trouble with slippage or falling off.  The cat in the pictures is pretty light weight, but their other (much.larger) shy feline is able to get on the seat and it holds firm.  The only issue that seems to have come up is that the Sunny Seat loves to hold onto fur.  The fur doesn't vacuum off very well and needs a sticky roller to get it off.  Not necessarily a deal breaker, but something you may want to know about!

Buy It!

You can purchase the Sunny Seat cat bed online for $19.99 +shipping and handling.  Right now, they're buy one get one free (plus the extra shipping and handling fees) and they add in 2 free laser lights for lots of fun for your cats!  Talker Man LOVES playing with our cats with the light, and they certainly love the exercise!

Mother Goose Club - Review

Mother Goose Club is a series of 1-minute educational programs for preschoolers promoting early literacy. The live-action series features six colorful characters from the Mother Goose world: Teddy Bear, Jack B. Nimble, Little Bo Peep, Baa Baa Sheep, Mary Quite Contrary, and Eep Mouse, who invite viewers to sing and dance along to favorite nursery rhymes.

Early childhood research has shown that familiarity with nursery rhymes helps young children learn to read. When preschoolers read, recite, sing or clap along to rhymes, they develop a feel for the sounds and structures of language, the first step in becoming successful readers. Mother Goose rhymes also introduce children to characters, drama, simple story structure and a host of new vocabulary words, all building blocks for early literacy. Perhaps most importantly, children are delighted by the singing, clapping, and finger play in nursery rhymes, and learn to associate words and verse with joy, laying the foundation for a lasting enthusiasm for reading.

Both boys absolutely LOVED checking out the fun DVD, CD's and coloring book from Mother Goose Club!  I think the DVD has been the biggest hit so far, it has Tiny Man completely enthralled and Talker Man has started singing nursery rhymes!  When I hear "One, two, buckle my shoe" being belted out from their bedroom, I know they're having a good time watching and listening to their new DVD!  I love that they're learning the same rhymes that kids have been learning for years and that they will help them in their pre-reading skills and ability to recognize rhyming words.  For fun, I really like how happy and excited the characters are without being obnoxious to parents. ;)

You can find Mother Goose Club on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube!

Seventh Generation Free and Clear Diapers Review and Giveaway

Seventh Generation wants to share an EXCLUSIVE sneak peek at their newly re-launched Free & Clear diapers. With the same great performance that parents have come to expect from Seventh Generation, Free & Clear diapers have a brand new look that makes it ‘clear’ what makes them so special.

What Seventh Generation leaves out is just as important as what they put in. Free & Clear diapers do not include chlorine processing, fragrances, latex and petroleum based lotions. In an effort to contribute less overall landfill waste and continue to ensure a premium standard of absorbency, the new Free & Clear diapers have been redesigned with a lighter-weight core. With processed chlorine-free wood pulp in Free & Clear diapers, Seventh Generation also makes certain that no chlorine is released into the environment during the totally chlorine-free (TCF) whitening process of the diapers and training pants.

Seventh Generation has also reduced the size of the diapers’ plastic packaging, meaning that each pack now contributes even less overall landfill waste than before. In fact, Seventh Generation Free & Clear diaper packaging can now be recycled at local supermarkets where plastic bag recycling collection boxes are available.

What we think!

As some of you long time readers may remember, we used Seventh Generation diapers for Tiny Man and loved them!  I hadn't taken the chance to try them on Little Miss Princess until recently and I have to say, the new "version" is just as good, if not better than the old!  The diapers are still very absorbent and they keep the mess in.  I did notice that they seemed lighter than before, and I wasn't sure if they could keep up, but they've done a fabulous job and we're quite satisfied!

Buy It!

To help encourage you to try the Seventh Generation Free and Clear diapers, head over here to print a coupon for $2.00 off any ONE Seventh Generation Baby Product (Diapers, Training Pants, or Wipes)!
