Work at Home: Transcription
If you've been reading long, I'm sure you've noticed I'm a WAHM. I get a lot of people asking about what I do and whether or not it's a legit thing. While there are some WAHM scams, there ARE ways to do it that are perfectly legitimate and that you do get paid for.
I'm a transcriptionist. I started off as a medical transcriptionist working from home for a hospital clear across the country. I LOVED it, but it's hard being a single mom and keeping a strict 4-midnight schedule. I needed more flexibility. Now I do various forms of transcription, but having that medical background really helps because I have knowledge many people don't. It makes it faster for me, because I don't have to look every single thing up, I have it in my head already.
I wanted to tell you about the school I attended, because they have a pretty awesome promotion going on right now, that I REALLY wish they'd had when I signed up years ago!! If you sign up now through September 30, you may be eligible for a free iPad2, lap top or tuition deductions! I went to Career Step and my experience was very positive. I know there are varying opinions on it and whatnot, but I really felt I got a great education.
Since I completed my certificate, they've branched off to have many options of online schooling:
Medical Transcription and Editing
Medical Coding and Billing
Pharmacy Technician
Computer Technician
Medical Administrative Assisting
Medical Billing
Administrative Assisting
If you're looking into online schooling or you're wanting to work from home, you may want to check it out. My experience has been positive, and I love being able to be around while my kids are growing up!
That said, nothing comes easy, and sometimes being a WAHM is REALLY hard and you have to be incredibly self disciplined and deadline driven. Procrastination is okay, but you're going to set yourself up for a time crunch, and if you want to "make it" you really need to be timely and accurate.

Yes, Procrastination is so easy but so detrimental in the long run. Thanks for the idea.

I would love to find a work at home job. I think it would be fine during the school year. But, summer. . . . Good for you for making it work!
