“BIG HEARTS, LITTLE SHOES” SHOE DONATION CAMPAIGN

The Little Gym, the experiential learning and child physical development center for ages 4 months through 12 years, is launching a new initiative to collect used or outgrown shoes. The program, called “Big Hearts, Little Shoes,” benefits Soles4Souls, the international charity that collects shoes and distributes them to people in need around the globe.

Children at The Little Gym donate shoes to help mark the kickoff of the experiential learning and child physical development center's "Big Hearts Little Shoes" campaign with Soles4Soles, July 25, in New York.

Big Hearts, Little Shoes” at The Little Gym is the first dedicated campaign for Soles4Souls focused on collecting children’s shoes. The program provides an interactive way for children to learn the value of charity and for parents and children to participate in a cause together. At The Little Gym, each class begins with children removing their shoes beforeentering the gym floor. Beginning this fall with the 2012-2013 Season of classes, children and parents can donate shoes they have outgrown or no longer need in special Soles4Souls drop boxes located in the lobbies of The Little Gym locations. The shoes will be shipped to Soles4Souls, which is committed to collecting and distributing shoes to people living in extreme poverty and recovering from natural disasters.

“Helping parents celebrate their children’s milestones is one of the most heartwarming parts of our day,” said Bob Bingham, President and CEO of The Little Gym International. “Whether it’s sharing their first steps, or their first somersault or cartwheel, families experience special moments together as part of their children’s development at The Little Gym. The ‘Big Hearts, Little Shoes’ program provides a unique opportunity for children to make a positive impact. It’s also a natural fit with the ‘Citizen Kid’ component of our core curriculum that focuses on life skills that help children grow into well-rounded citizens of the world.”

One hundred percent of all shoes donated to Soles4Souls are sustainable: More than 99% are used to help those in need, and the remaining that cannot be used are directed to a waste-to-energy facility where they are used to produce environmentally clean and renewable energy.

“Soles4Souls’ mission of helping people has always attracted little helping hands in the past, but The Little Gym is taking it to the next level,” said Kevin Goughary, CEO of Soles4Souls. “With the ‘Big Hearts Little Shoes’ program, we hope to rally a new group of ‘mini’ donors that will have a ‘mega’ impact on the world. It really is about kids helping kids and we’re thrilled to be a part.”

Mirror Mirror Spa Party (After!)

You may remember last week I posted my plans for my Mirror Mirror spa party. Everything seemed to go well and we all had a lot of fun!  Unfortunately, the recipes I found for some of the DIY spa stuff didn't work out as well as I'd hoped, so we went with doing our nails and pre-made facials!  Oh, and we can't forget chocolate!  Since it was later at night, I decided to just go for the good stuff.  No, it wasn't all healthy, but it WAS yummy!

...well...see for yourself.

The level of deliciousness was very high, let me just say!  Yay for Pinterest and yummy recipes that come together perfectly!

After all the talking, eating and enjoying each other's company, we settled in to check out the movie we'd all gathered to watch in the first place!

MIRROR MIRROR tells the story of Snow White (Collins), a princess in exile and the evil Queen (Roberts) who ruthlessly rules her captured kingdom.  Seven courageous rebel dwarfs join forces with Snow White as she fights to reclaim her birthright and win her Prince in this magical comedy filled with jealousy, romance, and betrayal that will capture the hearts and imaginations of audiences the world over.  The film is produced by Bernie Goldmann (300), Relativity’s Ryan Kavanaugh (The Fighter) and Brett Ratner (Rush Hour franchise).

The overall consensus for the movie was that it was good and very much worthwhile to watch!  The costumes and settings were fabulous and we all had an amazing time hanging out and enjoying each other's company!

Have you had the opportunity to check out Mirror Mirror yet?  What did you think?

Mirror Mirror Spa Party (Before!)

Being a work-at-home mom, sometimes the "me" time is limited and I know the same goes for many friends! When I was offered the opportunity to host a Mirror Mirror themed spa party, I began getting excited!!  Not only does the movie sound great, but spa time?  Yes, please!!

I've been finding all kinds of goodies on Pinterest, ways to have fun and pamper ourselves without spending a small fortune.  Everything from home made sugar scrubs and more.  I may be having a hard time narrowing down what exactly to plan and my time is running out since the party is only a few days away!

That's only the beginning though, I'm also finding and testing out some DELICIOUS recipes for food and drink.  I mean, really, Pinterest is an amazing resource for party planning these days!  You can see what works, what doesn't and what you can really do no matter your budget!

While you're all (I'm sure) anxiously awaiting my party pics and the followup post, what are some of your favorite party ideas?
