Since winter hit, I've become a huge online shopper. Really, the only thing I seem to physically go into the store and buy is food for us and stuff for the cats. It's cold, I don't like dragging the kids out, I hate being the only one carrying stuff back up the stairs and it's just..blah. I generally ask the help of a friend to help me haul the cat litter from my car trunk to the top of the stairs, becuase for some reason I can carry a 30 pound kid with no problem, but 35 pounds of litter is enough to make me almost fall backwards down the steps! Crazy.

I had NO idea that there was such a site as Mr. Chewy, where you can order all your pet needs online and have them delivered right to your door! I'm so happy to have learned of this site, you guys have NO idea. Having the "package man" haul the litter up the stairs for me? Yes, please!

I have two crazy kitties, Curious (in the picture!) and Patches (who has shown up in several other posts, and I can't seem to find any recent pictures of!)

Fortunately (well, unfortunately for me, but for you guys, fortunately!) I had the opportunity to deal with Mr. Chewy's outstanding customer service. I had placed my order for litter (and some wet cat food and treats!) without reading the physical description. Note to you all out there, don't do this. I went by the picture and ordered the same kind I buy at the store. I didn't notice, or didn't happen to read that the description said "Non clumping" Oh dear. When it all showed up, I STILL didn't seem to realize that I'd gotten bagged litter instead of the regular plastic container I'm used to seeing. I didn't know Tidy Cat made non-clumping "Instant Action" litter and didn't think anything of it. My mistake, but the Mr. Chewy customer service was SUPER helpful and had some new CLUMPING litter headed my way in no time at all!

OUTSTANDING!

The rest of my order was perfect, and my "replacement" litter arrived in no time at all. Really, this is some of the fastest online shipping I've had come my way. They also have a subscription service available, so you can set up an order of the things you need on a regular basis and have them automatically delivered to you. No need to worry about running out of food, treats, litter, or whatever else your animal companion may need!

Mr. Chewy has more than 70 brands for your cat and/or dog and they're always adding new things to their site. This makes it easy for you to find the brand you need for your pet. I found the prices very comparable to a physical store and the shipping is free on orders over $49. (That's huge when you look at how heavy some of this stuff can get.)

I really like that you can purchase Frontline. Sometimes it's a pain to remember to call the vet, stop in, pick it up, etc. Other websites seem to charge an arm and a leg and it's just not worth it. With Mr. Chewy, to be able to order it online at a similar price is fabulous. Your pet will thank you too!

What we thought:
I was surprised by this one! Talker Man LOVES it. He's been wanting to watch it multiple times a day and he retells the stories to me. He especially loves Timmy and Harriet the Heron. I honestly thought this would be more of a hit with Tiny Man, and while he seems to like it, he's not as attentive to it as Talker Man. A peaceful time frame that I can get transcription work done is fabulous, so while the babies are sleeping this one has proved effective for keeping Talker Man busy for a few minutes.

I've spent entirely too much time in maternity clothes the past few years, so now that I've shrunk back down to my normal, finding clothing that's unique and doesn't resemble a tent is proving to be fun! I've found several AWESOME new things available at ThinkGeek. Check these out!

When I'm just hanging out around the house, I refuse to wear pajamas or raggedy clothing. I don't mind sweats if they look decent, after all, they're comfy! You never know if someone may stop by or the "package man" might show up. When I saw this "LOL WUT" shirt, I honestly lol'd. The meme is typical of texts I send AND receive. It's well fitting and true to size, perfect for my lazy bum days and being comfortable without being slobby. Love! (Not to mention it brings to mind that big crazy looking pear!)

I also come upon this FABULOUS piece of unique awesomeness.

It's amazing, handmade and (even better) each one is made individually so no two are the same! NOBODY has the same hoodie as anyone else. Amazing. This tentacle hoodie is bleach stenciled, which is something I'd never seen in person. Not sure, it looks like something that would be a lot of fun to try and if I ever mistakenly bleach something that shouldn't be, I may be trying it out for myself. This wearable work of art is made possible by Raygun Robyn. I checked out her site and she has so many unique things available there AND on ThinkGeek.

Tommee Tippee Explora #Review

If you've been reading this blog for awhile, you may have seen previous Tommee Tippee related posts. Since I nursed all the kids, we didn't use the brand much, though I have to say Tiny Man was a HUGE fan of the bottle when he weaned (early, at 10 months, thanks to pregnancy). I had heard of the Explora line in passing, read a couple of reviews here and there that seemed to be full of praise. When we were lucky enough to be allowed to review a few things from the Explora line, I was excited to really give Tommee Tippee a chance.

REALLY, what rock was I living under for the past two kids?? The things we tried are absolutely amazing.

The "package man" arrived just as I was making dinner, so I let Little Miss Princess check out the goodies while I finished up. As you can see, we got to check out the feeding spoons, weaning bowls and easi-mat. To be honest, I wasn't sure how well the easi-mat would work. We've tried similar products and the boys would just pick the bowl right up like there was nothing there.

I actually took this picture because she was yanking on it, trying to get it off the mat to throw it on the floor. I love her look of pure concentration. Right when I snapped it, you can see she managed to pull it off, lol. I think this was a bit of a fluke because she hasn't done it since. The packaging actually says to get each piece a little wet with water and it'll help with the suction. I didn't do that when she pulled it off, but I've done it every time since and, like I said, she hasn't pulled it off any more. I just fill her bowl with food, stick it in the freezer to cool (these bowls are microwave, freezer and dishwasher safe) and then get a little water on my fingers and rub the bottom of the bowl. Works perfectly. The easi-mat sticks to her tray and any other surface we've tried to stick it to. Food doesn't stick, which is fabulous. I just rinse it with soap and water after she eats and then I hang it over the handle of the stove to drip dry (not that it takes long) and to store it while her tray is in the dishwasher.

Before we got these bowls and the easi-mat, I would put her food directly on the highchair tray. She would just throw her bowls on the floor before she'd even eaten anything. Now she can't do that and she's eating in a much more civilized manner! In the short time that we've been using this set, all of the kids have used the bowls and I finally have a bowl that I can give Tiny Man without worrying he's going to throw it off his highchair tray and break it. The weaning bowls are made of a soft plastic that bends and moves (it's not flimsy by any means, but it's not hard plastic that gets thrown and cracks or breaks). I can't tell you how many "break resistant" plates and bowls we've gone through. I REALLY wish I'd known about these a year ago when Tiny Man was first using dishes, it would have saved me a lot of frustration!

In checking around online, I see that they also have a divided plate that can be used with the easi-mat. I think a trip to Babies R Us is in our future...for an easi-mat for Tiny Man, some plates and possible another set of bowls! I'm assuming that the plates made of the same plastic as the bowls, so replacing our character plates may be in order--at least until all plate throwing is outgrown!

Brownie Bar Maker #Review @ThinkGeek

Perfect for when you have that chocolate craving, but you don't want to heat up the whole house, this brownie bar maker (available at ThinkGeek!) is a AMAZING option! I can only imagine how perfect this would be in a dorm room or anywhere else that has no oven access. For our first time trying it, I used boxed mix, but the machine comes with a little recipe book too. I think the sizing would be better if you use their recipes..I ended up with a little too much batter. I also had to guess a little on the cook time since I used the box, but 15 minutes was perfect.

The Brownie Bar Factory is really easy to use. You grease it up (I used Pam "Baking Spray") plug it in and wait for the little indicator light to turn off. It actually heats up really fast, I was surprised.

While the machine was heating up, I thought I'd have plenty of time to mix up the brownie mix. Like I said, it heated up really fast, but I think my two little helper boys made the batter mixing a little slower than usual. It's okay, they had a blast.

Nom, nom, nom. I used a cookie scoop to scoop out the batter. It worked pretty well, except my cookie scoop holds too much (it's an extra large, ice cream sized almost, lol!). It made it really easy to get the batter in though, and virtually messless (again, I had two boys helping!).

Since these were turtle brownies and had the caramel topping, I figured "Why not?" And gave it a try as I had greased it up pretty nicely. I thought giving it a possible challenge would see how it stood up to sticky messy brownies!

Um, hello, YUM! The sizing was great for the kids (I may or may not have had two..) Each brownie was perfectly chewy around the edges and amazing in the middle.

I also like how easy the brownies are to put away for later. Pop them into a zip-loc bag and they stay fresh. I couldn't say for how long, they only lasted a few hours here. Cleanup was easy enough, no harder than a sandwich maker or other similar machine. The crumbs wiped right out, no biggie. I'm storing the machine itself in it's original box because of where I have to put it in this storage-less apartment, but it's super slim and would fit great standing up on end on a pantry shelf.

What we thought:

What's not to love? Fast, easy to make desserts, easy clean up, fabulous.

I love getting the kids clothes from Crazy 8! I think the prices are good and the quality is excellent. Since Talker Man's clothes generally get passed down to Tiny Man, I try to go for quality over price, but Crazy 8 hits both for me. A couple of weeks ago, my sister and I were wandering around the mall and caught a glimpse of the $11.99 and under EVERYTHING sign. You can bet that we made a beeline for the store! I am BEYOND obsessed with their "Panda" line for Little Miss Princess.

I mean, really, does it get any cuter? I got her this dress (regularly $18.95) and paired it with some black leggings. Absolutely adorable and affordable since she can wear it without the leggings when it gets warmer! It's an outfit that'll last more than one season and I love that. When I was in the store, I tried to get her the bootcut fleece pants, but they were out of her size :( I may have to take advantage of the free shipping (on orders over $50) and ongoing online sale!

I swear, I've tried just about every laundry detergent there is to try. I've tried cheaper ones that don't work, more expensive ones that don't work as well as I think they should, and I always seem to go to the old standby in the orange bottle because it gets the stains out the first time.

What we thought!

The boys have watched this more times than I can count. I love that all these "older" cartoons are coming back and that they're on DVD format so the kids can enjoy them! I got rid of cable and sometimes they just want to sit and watch cartoons, especially when they're not feeling well, so this is a perfect solution.

I recently took the opportunity to try out some new bath products offered by EdenFantasys. If you haven't noticed or haven't heard, their selection is growing!

I'm always looking to try new bubble baths! I like lots of good smelling bubbles to relax the day away and have a little peace and quiet. This bubble bath from Not Soap Radio is fabulous!! I tried out the one pictured, though they have several scents. "The Phoenix" is said to be an "instant optimizer" because it's infused with optimism-promoting Bergamot. What's Bergamot? According to their description, Bergamot uplifts the spirit, boosts confidence and helps to create a general sense of happiness and well-being by lifting melancholy.

I found it to bubble up nicely and didn't have to use any more than I normally would. I really like the citrus-y scent too. You can use this as a shower gel as well, but I've only tried it for bubble baths.

It's a little expensive, I suppose, at about $15.00 a bottle, but it's not really any more than a specialty-store bubble bath and a little goes a pretty long way. I've used it several times and still have most of the bottle left!

My phone isn't smart. It may even be a little dumb. It texts when it feels like it, and for a person who texts quite a bit, that can be a pain! It's a slider, which I like, but I always wished it could have more smart phone capabilities, but hadn't found anything similar that did.

I love my boots, but I HATE the way my jeans look if I'm not wearing skinny jeans and they're all bunched up. It's such a peeve of mine that sometimes I'll wear regular shoes and end up with soggy pant legs just to keep myself from having the frustration of crazy pants.

I knew there had to be some kind of solution, but didn't know what it might be. When I was introduced to the Boot Stroot, it was like a lightbulb went off in my head! The Boot Stroot is a product designed to wrap around the bottoms of your jeans (or whatever pants you may be wearing) and it keeps them down where they're supposed to be! I'm sure this would work for kids too, it would probably save some parent frustration and keep little legs warmer. I think it would also keep their regular pants down where they're supposed to be when you're trying to get snow suits on. (Another pet peeve! Nothing like kiddos having their regular pants pulled up the their knees when they're trying to get snow pants on!)

As you can see, the Boot Stroot is very easy to use, just cuff your pants, wrap the Boot Stroot around the cuffed area and pull on your boots! I keep mine down in my boots so I don't misplace them, and it's easy enough to leave them in the boots if you're out visiting this holiday season.

You pants stay dry, unbunched, and you look like you've got the pants-in-boots thing down to a science!

Tyson Mini Chicken Sandwiches #TysonGoodness #Review

Tyson makes lunch super easy and FAST with their new mini chicken sandwiches! Lunchtime (and dinnertime, for that matter) can be a little hectic around here if I lose track of time! When the boys get hungry, they want food NOW or there will be fights, tears and overall melt downs. I picked up some of these new sandwiches at Walmart in the freezer section. They have some with cheese and some without, I grabbed the ones with cheese because, well, they love cheese.

Preparing the sandwiches was super easy! You microwave them in the bag and everything heats up just the way you would want it to. The bun stays soft and the chicken is hot in the middle. Each package has 2 sandwiches in it, so the boys could split a package and have some other things with their lunch. I tried some too and thought they were pretty tasty for such a fast snack!

I know, it's a chip he's chomping on and not the sandwich, but he chowed right through his whole plate and was one very satisfied little man!

I like that they're fast to prepare, they taste pretty good and there's virtually no mess. These sandwiches would be great any time, for a snack, for lunch, whatever!

Hickory Farms for the Holidays!

Hickory Farms has been a part of holiday tradition for as long as I can remember! We always had it as part of our New Year's Day snack-all-day festivities. Talker Man has already picked up on the love for the delicious summer sausage and cheese and Tiny Man is right there with him!

Thanks to Mom Central Consulting, we had the opportunity to have a Hickory Farms party for family and friends! Everyone had a blast and LOVED the food and time together!

As you can see, the My First Sticky Mosaics Pets kit is bright, colorful and made for ages 3 and up. Talker Man is 4 and LOVES to do art projects, so I knew he would be excited to check this out.

This particular mosaics kit comes with 5 fun designs, 1000+ sticky foam pieces and even the hangers to allow your little one to hang their artwork on the wall or bulletin board!

Talker Man chose the cat to create first. He did an incredible job and had no trouble at all manipulating the foam pieces and matching them up to their correct spots on the board! It's like a "color by numbers" only you're using foam colors and shapes to create your artwork.

If your child happens to have an "oops" and puts the wrong piece down or you have a perfectionist who wants the piece to be in exactly the right place (ahem, Talker Man), the boards are made of a glossy paper/cardboard that allows you to easily remove and restick. The foam piece even stays sticky and yes, the adhesive stays on the foam so you don't have sticky gunk on the board where the mistake was fixed.

The Orb Factory has LOTS of fun projects and activities that come with everything you need to create some fabulous masterpieces! Gyro Bowl #Review #Giveaway #GiftGuide

The Gyro Bowl is a fabulous little invention. Talker Man has been begging for one for quite some time now, but I'm not so much an "order off the tv" kind of mama! I thought I'd wait until they came out in stores and check them out in person before actually getting one.

When we had the opportunity to review the Gyro Bowl for all you fabulous readers, Talker Man was in little boy excitement-heaven! He couldn't wait to put it to use! The Gyro Bowl is a nice kid-friendly bowl that rotates 360 degrees to prevent spilling. It's been used for everything from cereal to Legos and everything stays in when Talker Man uses it! Tiny Man, however, is a different story. He quickly figured out that if you hold the inner bowl, you can dump the cereal. My boy is too smart ;) I still think the bowl is great and we've had no accidental spills, just Tiny Man's "on purpose" spills.

The Gyro Bowl is top rack dishwasher safe, and as always, you know we tried that out. It came through just fine and was perfectly clean. I like that it has a lid too, it keeps snacks fresh and makes it easy to toss into the diaper bag (more so nothing else falls into it than for worries of it spilling, like I said, we've had no accidental spills!) The Gyro Bowl is BPA free and is NOT microwave safe...not that I can figure out what you would want to microwave it for ;)

Oh goodness, EdenFantasys has gotten some super cute clothes in! They call them their "Clubwear Collection" I chose a couple of fantastic shirts a few weeks ago and overall, I'm pretty happy with them! Fair warning though, they run SMALL. I bought mediums and really should have gone with larges to feel a little more comfortable.

This Flirty Ruffles Top featuring a short sleeve silhouette with scoop neckline, fitted bodice and belted waistline is one of my favorites. I ordered it, but since I got a medium it just didn't fit so I passed it on to someone else. The waist is very tight and doesn't have much give so it was hard to get on. I may try ordering a large just because I REALLY like the look.

They have more than just shirts though, there are some cute dresses and a pretty good sized selection of leggings as well. There are a lot that I like, but with the slightly off sizing I'm a little nervous at ordering again. (Mostly because I hate ordering a larger size than I think I need, lol! Vain much?)

Talker Man is 4, he loves to build with these kind of blocks, but sometimes it's easier if mommy does the initial build and then he plays with it and pulls it apart and builds it whatever way he sees fit. Four year olds and direction following do NOT always go hand in hand ;) This set is rated for ages 5 and up so he's on the young side, but like I said, he can manage if I build it first.

I like this set, it get his imagination going and since there are two vehicles and firemen, Tiny Man can play too. There have been countless fires extinguished and people (other mini-figures) rescued in our house! I thought it was easy to build the first go around and Talker Man likes building it his way and creating various versions. Sometimes it's nice to just have a toy with no lights or sounds that can get them creating and playing for hours on end, and that's what this set has done in our house!

Guest Post: Scots Government starts scheme to list thousands of households out of fuel poverty

In an admirable bid to stop many households on the breadline from falling into fuel poverty, the Scottish Government has introduced a £12.5M scheme to help 200,000 households pay for their fuel this winter.

Energy price hikes have seen many families and couples plunged into a state of affairs where they have to limit other purchases like food to pay for their heating and hot water.

So, what is fuel poverty?

This is when you have to spend ten percent of more of the money you have coming in so that you can afford things like food and clothing. Many people on low income have to choose to buy either electricity or food – like something out of a Charles Dickens novel set in the 1840’s.

How to help avoid fuel poverty

· Don’t always have your hot water on: People have become so used to hot water on demand that they don’t realise how much they could save by just turning it on an hour or so before they need it and always turning it off at night. It might affect your early morning shower, but it’ll take loads off your electricity bills. This is particularly useful if you are unfortunate enough to have an electricity key meter.

· Save little and often: Plan for the inevitable. You might not be able to stop the large corporations from putting up their prices but you can head them off at the pass by saving as little as £5 a week in the summer months. You’re far less likely to notice it that way. Put it in a rarely used bank account and keep the cash card somewhere safe but out of the way so that you’re not tempted to use it.

· Invest in solar PV: It might seem like a considerable outlay to begin with, but will really benefit your finances long term. The government’s Feed-In Tariff means that you’ll get PAID by your energy supplier for both the electricity your solar panels generate AND for the electricity you sell to the national grid (you’ll never be able to use it all!) The Feed-In tariff rates are being cut in 2012, but you can still get in now and enjoy the great returns. Good installers like The Energy Conservation Group could install your solar panels for free and simply take the feed-in tariff payments as their payment. This gives you access to as much free, clean electricity as you like. Get in!

Judy Moody Sleepover Part 2!

Feisty, fearless Judy Moody (Jordana Beatty) is looking forward to the most super-duper, double-rare summer vacation ever. The trouble is, her parents are called out of town and her BFFs are going away with their own families. That leaves Judy trapped at home with her pesky brother Stink (Parris Mosteller) under the watchful eye of Aunt Opal (Heather Graham). But with a little playful planning – and a lot of imagination – Judy turns a snoresville summer into the way-not-boring adventure of a lifetime!

We had our Judy Moody and the NOT Bummer Summer viewing party last weekend and it was a ton of fun! You can check out the pre-party post here in case you missed it!

As planned, we had a pizza bar! We had to cook the pizzas in shifts, but I went with already made/cooked pizza dough so it made things a lot faster. They only had to cook until the cheese melted and the toppings were hot.

Delicious!

After everyone had eaten, we got settled in with popcorn and some spooky Halloween snacks (Boo-Berry fruit roll ups anyone??) to check out Judy Moody and the NOT Bummer Summer!

The overall consensus was that a movie was great! The kids loved it and they were discussing it afterwards, which I thought was great! I thought the movie was cute and Talker Man popped out to have a watch too. It's rated PG, but most of that went right over his head. He kept talking about it and asking to see it again, so even little boys can enjoy Judy Moody and the NOT Bummer Summer!

Each kiddo got to go home with a slumber party goodie bag complete with sleep mask and the mood rings that they got to wear during the movie.

I didn't get the okay to post pictures of kids that aren't mine, so I'm holding off for now because I don't want anyone mad ;)

· Bringyour passport and boarding pass. Don’t end your trip before it has begun with arookie error!

· Tryto organize cabs before you go, because in some countries cab drivers will takeadvantage of tourists and you may end up paying more than you should. This isespecially important for the final cab to the airport. If they know you need tobe somewhere fast, they may try and use this to their advantage.

Organize your days in advance! If you leave it to you and your friends to decide at thetime you will almost always end up sleeping through the sunlight and waking upto dinner.

What You Need to Bring

· Fora first trip abroad, this is one of the most important pieces of advice to takeinto account. Although the large pile of newly converted money looks like itcould last you for the rest of your life, it will not. Budget for how muchmoney you will need each day and then put the money you don’t spend into a potto blow at the end! It is also important to plan for the worst and havesufficient funds in case of emergency.

The Right Clothes

· Oftenwhen going abroad, people either over estimate the heat and bring nothing but tanktops and flip flops - or they underestimate it and bring jeans, boots and theirfavorite fur coat. The best way to avoid this is to ask someone who has alreadybeen to your chosen destination and ask them what they wore and if it wassufficient.

What You Don’t Need to Bring

Excessive Amounts of Books, DVDs and Magazines

· Whenpacking for vacation you may imagine yourself having loads of free time to fill,when in reality you won’t. People often bring piles of magazines, books and DVDsthat waste valuable space in their bags and end up being left at the bottom ofa draw for the duration of the trip.

How much fun would it be to wear acouples costume with your significant other? It’s exciting and allows you toshow your creative side. Below are a few fun couples costume ideas.

It is always Halloween in the Nightmare before Christmas so why not go as Jackand Sally? For Jack’s character, a pinstriped black suit is best. Although somewhat taboo, going as a priest and a nun adds laughs to anyHalloween party. For the priest costume you will need a long black robe with awhite collar. A wooden cross necklace completes the ensemble. You will also needa long black robe for the nun’s costume. A white belt cord and white headpiecehelp the costume to look more real. A slit on the side of the robe with blacklace tights gives this costume a more sensual look.

Pre-Party Planning: Judy Moody and the NOT Bummer Summer

Just yesterday, Judy Moody and the NOT Bummer Summer hit store shelves on DVD and Blu Ray! When I saw the previews earlier this summer, I thought it looked pretty cute! As it happens, I was chosen to host a slumber/viewing party of this new release! So much fun! I've been planning out what kind of fun things to do, what to make, snacks and all that good stuff! It's nice to plan a not-all-boy-themed party!

For dinner, I think we're going to do a build your own pizza bar. Yum! I'm going to make the sauce and dough ahead of time and have all the toppings in bowls for the kids to decide what they want on their individual pizzas. Since everyone has different tastes and preferences, I think this will be a hit for everyone!

I'm still working on craft ideas, searching favorite blogs and checking prices on some things. One thing I do know, each kiddo will be taking home a fabulous little swag bag/backpack complete with mood rings and sleep masks! How fun is that?

I can't wait for party night, it's going to be a blast! Stay tuned for the after-party post to see what we did and what we thought of the movie!

Bover Bags Review

The pack 'n play has always been a pain. It just has, there's no two ways around it, it's a necessary evil. I don't like putting it up, I don't like taking it down and I CERTAINLY don't like trying to get it "just right" to zip it into it's tight fitting storage bag that doesn't seem to hold all the pieces. I also have a sheet that, for the life of me, is nearly impossible to cram into the storage bag with the pack 'n play. I mean, really, it's so tight fitting that it's hard to squeeze a SHEET in?

The creators behind BoverBags apparently suffered the same issues I do, so they came up with a GORGEOUS solution! The Bover Bag is a pack 'n play storage bag that is not only beautiful, it's much more practical than the one that came with the pack 'n play itself! I received the black and white "Colleen" pattern shown here. I thought it was pretty and an easy way to girly-fy our otherwise neutral pack 'n play.

It's made slightly bigger than your folded pack 'n play and is lined with a silky material that makes sliding it in and out super easy. Just pull the drawstring and tighten it down and you're ready to go, no more struggling with zippers or making sure the handle is sticking out just right. The Bover Bag has a long shoulder strap making it even easier to tote around this baby essential! Throw it over your shoulder and leave your hands free to carry all the other baby stuff you need for your adventure! There are pockets too, for any extra poles and accessories, and yes, even sheets! I crammed the original pack 'n play bag into one of them along with the sheet and little waterproof pad and I still have room in that pocket. Fabulous.

Keep Your Family Cold and Flu Free! #lysolcoldandflu

Ugh, it's about that time of year again. We're going through our first cold of the season already, unfortunately! Thankfully it's just been a minor case of the sniffles, but it got me thinking ahead!

With kids, you, as the parent, should be showing them how to stay cold and flu free. It's something that will stick with them and keep them healthy as they grow and it's something they'll pass on to their own kids one day. Talker Man is at the age where he can start being proactive in keeping himself healthy so we've been working on hand washing and keeping fingers out of the nose (sigh). There are lots more ways to stay healthy, but I think we're at a pretty good start! Next on my list of teachings will be for him to learn to sneeze into his elbow, but for now washing his hands after sneezing and coughing seems to be pretty effective. I know once he's in school all the time, trying to use body parts OTHER than his hands will be important, but for now he's a four year old boy. I'm trying. ;)

I don't do flu shots, none of the kids have had them and I haven't either. I don't really like vaccinations anyway and a voluntary one in otherwise healthy kids isn't at the top of my list.

For Tiny Man, we're working on hand washing. He thinks it's a lot of fun to play with the soap and in the water, but it's starting the healthy habits early that's important!

Little Miss Princess is too little to understand that kind of stuff, so I just try to keep myself healthy to help keep her healthy. Breastfeeding does a pretty good job too, I'm planning on getting her through this winter season to keep those good antibodies going into her little body!

I keep a bottle of hand sanitizer readily available in the diaper bag too. After handling grocery carts and other random things throughout the day when you're out running around, sometimes stopping to wash up isn't at the forefront of your mind. It's not good to use it 24/7, but as a quick clean up, it really can be helpful in keeping you healthy!

When (not if) the cold bug does hit this season, make sure you're well supplied on tissues, frozen OJ, fever reducers and cold medicine (if you use it) BEFORE you get sick. The last thing you want to do is drag your sick self (of kiddos) into a store where you might pass it on. Not to mention, who really wants to go to the store when they're not feeling well? Not I!
